Hey tech-heads, any way to repair/remove a burned bus without swapping out the entire mobo? I thought I burned through a power supply last night, when I plugged in my iPod to recharge and my PC just shut off and wouldn't restart (small burning smell).

Then I ran out this morning and bought another power supply, and installed it, and the PC started, but the burning smell was WORSE, I tried to shut it off, and it wouldn't manually override (hold power button down) so I threw the toggle switch in back, pulled the plug, opened it up and went hunting for the burning smell (because it didn't smell like it was coming from the power supply), and found this:





So tech-heads, let me know what my next plan of attack should be. I cannot live without my rig. I'm already pissed this happened Friday night (weekend = shot).

God damn it, I'm cursed. Now I have to go find a mobo that works with all of my equipment (and I don't even remember what I bought now). Looks like I'm taking the whole rig to CompUSA tonight/tomorrow.

Goes to show how comp illiterate I am I read the title of the thread and thought this was something about a burned bus as in, "the wheels on the bus goes round and round," bus.

my dads a mega mechanic master so thats the same thing here, brother worked in helping design a nuke genorater for a while, so i kinda thought of both, but more to the wheels on the bus thing myself

Wow X'an thats a pretty cool way for a mobo to f--- itself. Are you sure you didn't take it outside with a magnifying glass?

Heh, I might take it outside with a magnifying glass NOW. Or a shotgun. Either or.

Turns out it was the chipset, not the bus (me = dur). Bought the new mobo, and a chipset heat sink (even though I think that's more of a manufacturer's defect rather than a heat issue, as it burned out the second I turned the PC on).
