I don't know jack about programming, but I do know that those sigs can slow down performance for me sometimes on my blazing fast DSL. I voted that they were fun, but is there anyway we can support a display option that has them disabled as well as one that has them enabled?

The plain/work-safe theme has them stripped out. But is a double edged sword. That theme has a white background and people tend to highlight things in yellow and use neon colors in posts which makes a significant number of posts unreadable.

Now that I've played with the avatars a bit more, I think have avatars would be better overall IMHO. But it looks like sig files may come back after all.

Some of the sigs people had looked like it took some time a effort to make them so to not have them is a bit of a let down for those who worked hard to make their sigs

Yeah I had done mine by hand and finally got it to show up and then they were removed lol. Going to check it on the host site to make sure the size is ok - it may have still been a little big.

Wouldn't people prefer to take on less intrusive, albeit smaller avatars?

<---- Example

I am just curious. It seems like a better way of showing of your coolness to me.

In a way yes.

A sig is cool the first few times you see it.. then it just takes up space and slows things down. Not that the same is not true of avatars.. but their size makes them more tolerable.

Maybe you need a new poll with the following options:
- Avatars only
- Avatars and sigs

good idea Ekade, and with both outcomes a possiblity, jabe can you help me take a screen shot and have it be my avatar and/or in my sig !

I'd be happy with just Avatar's as long as we could at least have a small sig, even if just a quote or something. It just seems so...empty down there now.

I think we should probably have a new poll. I won't do it right away though. We're still doing sig inspections now anyway to see how many problems we will have if they come back.

I like both my avatar and my sig. They're not required, but they're fun. We don't get any real variety on the SOE boards, so I liked seeing others do something different here.

Despite all that, I come here for the actual written word, I like the sigs/avatars, but it's not the focus. So in conclusion, I'm down for whatever.
