Saw a story done on this game on Fox News last week. Its a game set in modern times like the SIMs. You run around as some toon and life your life. What made this game worth metioning on a national news network is that the developers made it a real money economy. Saw I want to get my toon a new shirt I have to find another player who sales shirts and I pay him/her real money for this in-game shirt. Its reported that some people are making 6 digit incomes buy providing clothes, jewlery, and other in-game goods to fellow players. The best part is the game is free and has no monthly charge if you dont mind not owning property in the game and deside to buy nothing for your toon. I checked it out myself and found you need at least a valid credit card or pay pal account to join it though.

Great something new to endenture the unwitting masses. As if gambling addictions weren't bad enough now you'll have people spending their paychecks on fake goods with no returns instead of their car payment lol..oh wait they will still pay for their IG car I'm sure lol.
I'm amazed at our continued progress towards ruining life as we know it :P

I have read about this game. They created an island inside of it and it sold for 26 grand - real money.

without hitting any links, i think i know what game this is...due to jabe's island statement.
The game works both ways, they are trying to create a total virtual world..some people will make money, some will go broke.

Second Life is the name of the game
I just find it amazing that one people are making so much money off the game and two that people are actually paying money for nothing.

Aren't most of us paying at least $15.00 a month for nothing?

I want to live on
Danger Island and shout "Uh-Ohhhhh! CHONGO!!!" so I can watch that mofo on the far left go Caa-RAZY each time I say it!

Not only can you fly, you can create things like exploding cows and the launchers for them. Then you do battle with others. It's hilarious.
As for the money, you use ingame money. Unlike SWG (probably because they learned from SWG's problems), they have their own RL bank and a fluxuating rate of exchange between the lindens and dollars. They have thus cut out eBay.
As for earning lindens, you create things that others want. Hairstyles, houses, skins, dune buggies, Japanese maples, actual art, virtual art, cow launchers, tattoos, chairs, dances and dance macros, clubs to dance in, et cetera, et cetera.
About the only thing you can't create is your last name. That you have to choose from a list.
Oh, yes. You also have mature areas that the kids can't go into. There is a server for the teens...probably not as commercially oriented. Warning, do not travel into the mature areas while you are at work.
You can play for free, or you can pay for the upgrade. The upgrade lets you own property. We know a woman from Europe who makes real dollars dabbling in real estate.
