I had it in June. Watched it a few times. Got annoyed. Started flaming in the LucasArts forums about how much better I could have done that movie.

About to put it on now with the commentary (I saw the movie in theatres, I like digging in to the extras right away).

In this vein, who else has watched/listened to the commentaries for the previous 5 DVDs? I found Ben Burtt, the sound designer and man behind identifiable sound effects still used in SW games to this day to really steal those commentaries, or at least Episode 4.

Just curious if anyone else is enough of a film buff to sit through commentaries like I do (I am a film student, so I'm predisposed to it).

We watched the commentary for Empire Strikes Back. I really enjoyed it. I thought the director actually did a really great job but it's been months since we watched it.

Well, I found the commentaries on the prior films to be very interesting. Of the original trilogy, I agree with Sepiv in that Empire had the strongest commentary track. Irvin Kershner's commentary is in stark comparison to the more serious commentary tracks by Lucas and helps lighten the mood a bit.

I started watching the movie with commentary here tonight but fell asleep (I saw Sith like 5 times in the theater). I will say this for the extras... most of the deleted scenes were cut reasonably. I'd have to agree with Lucas in that most of them although cool, do not fit well with the timing of the film. There is one scene with Yoda though I wish would have made it into the cut just because it was so pretty(I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't watched the extras)

The "Within a Minute" documentary is really amazing to watch. They break down a 49 second segment of the Mustafar fight and show you all the people involved with making that scene from the concept art to the final print. It's amazing how many people it takes to make 49 seconds of screen time.

It may be hard to believe, but there are more important things than SWG and posting here

Got my DVD on monday (release here in germany was 31st ^^) and started watching all the bonus material.
It's good in quality and quantity, but still not as good as my all time favorite, which would be LotR (hard to be better than the Extended Editions when it comes to bonus stuff, maybe the 6DVD Star Wars box set will be able to).
Within a minute was interesting, just to see the amount of people involved, but i would have liked it to be even more detailed about the specific aspects of the peoples work.
Most of the deleted scenes proved to be not very interesting, i agree with Illbleed that they were not included in the movie for a (good) reason.

Didn't watch the movie with commentary yet, but i intend to do so,guess it will be interesting to hear about some of the thoughts that influenced the movie. Guess i've got something to do for next weekend.

Next move is TV. They've got about 100hours of live action TV that they are planning on and clone wars is coming back in CGI. Lucas is finally looking to getting around to putting Indy 4 through with Harrison Ford and Stephen Spielberg.

God help us all if he ever gets that pile of steaming crap off the ground.. I can see the discussion now:

Yes, George. Even the worst screenplay ever written can be better with digital. Please encourage Hollywood to write insubstantial fluff and we'll make up for it with a digital character.Perhaps it's just me but I noticed that the word "motif" wasn't used as much in the making of for Episode III.

As much as I love SW(and the lore), the true essense of storytelling(the writing) has been sacrificed by the overabundance of technology. Hearing Lucas speak about the digital revolution, he mentions that moviemaking of the past suffered because it was "too difficult" to capture his vision on film. What is the answer then? Let's make it easier by doing things digitally. Notice the word "easier".

I think that making a film is a very human process that does not come without it's challenges. It's through artful direction that a true director can make the best out of what has been given to him and mold it into a fashion. Sure, the first three movies had cheesy effects, but they were HUMAN stories which I don't believe we truly get with the new trilogy in hindsight.

Also, how many times can George reference the Sat. Afternoon Serial in one movie?

I thought the original movies were better because of what was potentially left out. All you need to do is inpire the viewer and the rest is up to their own imagination. Thats what fandom is.
