Wow, the new combat upgrade is getting bashed in Wikipedia(See the section on Combat Upgrade)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Galaxies
"There is now a second Combat Upgrade. In a recently released "Letter to the Community", SWG Lead Developer Julio Torres has let it be known that another Combat Upgrade is planned for mid-November, and, as usual, with little input from the actual community. This next Upgrade will feature "faster paced, more heroic Star Wars action", mainly taking place in the First Person perspective. The old profession system will be scrapped, and players will no longer be able to change their template, and must choose one profession and stick with it. Based on reactions to this announcement on the forums, many SWG players have decided that this was the last straw and have pulled up stakes. However, a small percenatge are adopting a "wait and see" attitude. Planned for release on the 12th of November, this new Upgrade may be the death knell of Star Wars Galaxies."

In a recently released "Letter to the Community", SWG Lead Developer Julio Torres has let it be known that a series of wide-reaching changes are planned to enter testing on November 4th. These will include "faster paced, more heroic Star Wars action", more reminiscent of the 'pseudo-shooter' space combat already present in Galaxies. The profession system will be revamped to consist of 9 base professions: Force-Sensitive, Bounty Hunter, Commando, Trader, Officer, Smuggler, Spy, Medic, and Entertainer. The game will now include a new movie-rendering engine, allowing for more cinematic scenes, likely with voice-acting, that will involve famous Star Wars characters such as Han Solo, Chewbacca, Bobba Fett, and more. The first 10 levels of a character's life in the game will now take place in a seperate 'New Player Experience' area, which will also be featured as a free downloadable trial for new players. Here, the basic mechanics of the game will be introduced by C-3PO, Han Solo, and Chewbacca. Also among these changes is the return of an ongoing plot to Star Wars Galaxies, that is expected to be told largely via the new cutscene engine and interactions with famous Star Wars characters. Various message boards around the web demonstrate that, so far, the changes, while naturally disgruntling to many long-time fans of the old Star Wars Galaxies, are attracting many new players to SWG. The changes, along with the new downloadable trial and 'Star Wars Galaxies: Starter Set' retail box are planned for release on the 15th of November.

I'm so confused by all this. And now I'm no longer looking at 6 months but 2 weeks before the end of SWG as I know it? Will the experienced player have to go through 10 levels of "exciting" action with Han Solo? What the hell is an Imperial supposed to do...play along?

I WILL shoot Han Solo if I see him. That is a given. And with the shooting of Han Solo, I will single handedly save the Empire from destruction...and we will live in a glorious age of peace with our Emperor leading the way.
Ah, good dreams.

Ah, good dreams.
Han (to Nyvveck) "Strap yourself in, kid. We're jumping to lightspeed."
Nyvveck, unable to believe it -- here he is with one of the biggest fugitives in the galaxy and he can't pull out his blaster...and he keeps doing the actions he tells him to do as "kid" otherwise he'll never be able to start playing the game. ARGH! "Where's my AT-AT?!"

From my understanding, we older players will not have to go through such things...but if for some reason, Han Solo calls Nyvveck "kid", I will puke.

LOL! Well, I mean the whole freaking game is transforming. You're playing an arcade game now with only 9 professions but stats. And as usual there's no manual to explain anything...so the tutorial front end probably should be mandatory.
"Well Kid here's the thing--ya see your 14 stats there? See that stormtrooper over there? Well it don't mean a thing -- just point and click baby!"

Hello Guild Wars. So now I think between the first CU and this one, they've 'adopted' something from just about every MMO out there now and in the process lost most of what made this game unique. Way to go.
