Why I Won't Be Playing Regardless

Pardon my last vent regarding this:

1. Sony has no respect for their SWG customers. *Everything* they say, promise, mention, mumble in their sleep you can't believe in. Imagine playing baseball and the rules keep changing every inning..."Nope sorry. It was 5 outs this time. Thought ya' knew....And yes, we'll still be expecting your monthly fee beeyotch."

They won't get another dime.

2. IF for some bizarro reason I did play it, it woudn't be worth it for one month, or two, or three. Why? Because each time SWG gets an "up-rebala-vamp" it has more bugs than all of Geonosus. You won't be able to make an accurate judgement on the game because it'll be infested. Cha-ching! 3-6 more months of your jack to Sony...

And those bugs being fixed? Another dice roll.

I have missed and will continue to miss this community, but even group torture has it's limit.

You are definately not wrong to think SOE treats us like crap. They totally do.


The problem for me is this... in punishing the company by withdrawing my business, I am effectively punishing myself. Punishing myself in that I would not be able to play with my friends. Also, the game itself is still enjoyable


In the end, I ignore the customer abuse and ask myself.. "Is this still fun?"

It looks like maybe SOE is perhaps being phased out. Notice the announcement was by someone with a LucasArts sig, there's a new LucasArts screen at startup....couple that with the fact that changes of this magnitude had to have been worked on for quite some time and SOE couldn't have had the time to develop this new system after doing the CU and then working on the CH/SL changes AND the Mustafar expansion.

The whole thing wreaks of hostile takeover.....seems to me like Jedi Smedley just got pwnt by Darth Lucas...

IF that turns out to be the case it may be a small consolation for me at least that THE Star Wars people are running the game and not SOE.

The fact that I can't change professions irks me. But that can change before the 15th.
The fact that I only get 1 toon per server irks me. But from Novall's post, there is hints that may change.
The fact that I was deceived really pisses me off.

I think/hope the new game will allow my toon to be more unique than the current system.

I think the new game will allow SOE to keep the game fresh with new content. It is my opinion that they simply couldn't keep the game fresh due to the number of professions and combinations of professions offered. How do you create content for Rifleman when you can have a MRifleman/MCarbineer, MRifleman/MChef, Rifleman 4400/MSmuggler and some dancer & musician as just some of the possible combinations?

We have all stated that we stay around for the community and not for the game content. Doesn't that strike anyone in this community as fundamentally wrong? Considering that this community could also coordinate a move to another game as well as another server?

Consider the state of the game and you are the project director. Maybe you DO realize that the major thing that keeps the majority of you player base is the simple fact that it's not the game but the player communities that have formed. What do you do? Do you continue limp along and watch your current player base trickle away to other games because you can't meet the demand for good profession based content? Or do you put a bullet between the eye's and piss off the current customer base ( who would eventually leave anyway ) and try to salvage what you can and try to provide profession based content?


So....

SOE has gone all-in and I'm into this to at least to the end of the month. I have to see what makes them think that this is the be-all end-all that they think they can do this.

Will the game be fun enough to justify this move? It better be, because if this does not give me what I have been waiting for and then some, then it's goodbye SWG and hello WoW. Maybe Matrix. Maybe I'll just take a break for a while.

Yes I've heard LA's contact with SOE is up in January so this could be the beginning of a LA run SWG. That's kind of what all these changes have pointed out to me. But I could be wrong.

The ability to change your playstyle is one of the biggest appeals in this game. Taking that away would be a bad move as far as this customer is conerned.

Well my thoughts on the limited professions is the simple fact that there is so many different professions in the game now, that i would imagine it would be difficult to manage, fix, and add new content to them as the game goes on. Adding all the new stuff like they have been is an attempt to keep the game from becoming stale. But by doing so they don't simply get things corrected.

Now that there is less professions prehaps things will get corrected in a more timely manner. Least lets hope so lol. I dun know, even that isn't an excuse broken stuff should come first IMO, but keeping a strong customer base is important too. So in doing this it's all or nothing, fail or grow. Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I'm still going to miss hybrid chars.

This is why you NEED TO SAVE YOUR RESPECS!

Try out all your profs on TC and save those respecs for the 9 times you may wanna change your profession. Incorperate that into major RP times in yourt characters life and use it.

I can't pour my emotions out into a long drawn out post for each of the twenty bazillion threads we have going on this...

but I will say, im checking this out, and if it got yoinked out from under SOE by LA finally, that's just icing. SOE has been giving it to us long and hard. They gave us a nice, beautiful looking game with terrible gameplay. And LA holds the rights to the genre that keeps most of us here, hoping playing, wanting something more.

I love this community, I will stay with the elders here, wherever they should go.

I have no interest to test the system, fighting desperately to get in under the cap to lag out waiting to board the Falcon.

If TC-Gorath comes up, I will hop in there. Either that, or I just wait for it to go live and play then. Hopefully the gameplay will not be that bad, and the community and my on-going storylines will keep me interested enough.

At the very least, I have found a great, complex, FREE MMO that I can move to when I tire of the semi-FPS that this game is becoming.

I want to jab a fork in SOE's proverbial eye. I would love to just cancel outright and completely wash my hands of it just in retaliation, but after over 2 years of work into Toront, I can not just drop him like that. At least not yet. I'm glad I at least had an alt account that I was able to cancel the day of the changes. Hopefully I won't feel compelled to follow suit with my main.

Well, I've yo-yo'd with my subscriptions in the past, taking small breaks from the game. I don't mind the combat changes myself because I really didn't get to know the current ones when this announcement came of a new CU.

I will tell you that if the current TC server is indictive of how LA is gonna be running things that I'm quitting. I'll go back to my easy "WOW" game that everyone seems to hate(except me) and just be done with SOE. I love this community and my friends here but I don't know if I can consciously support a company that does not provide good customer service and practices some awful shady business dealings.

I guess SOE's contract with LA isn't due to end until January. If all the rumors are true I am betting in January that you'll see the complete divorce go through... i.e. the SOE forums won't be, they'll be the LucasArts forums, at lucasarts.com etc.
