Ok, from here on out, no more NEW "this is my opinion on the CU 2 upgrades."

We already know it's your opinion. You are saying it. Duh.

Pick an already established thread and have at it. But the next thread titled "such and such's take on the CU 2" is getting canned.

I played some on TC Corbantis last night as I had a near complete character sitting there untended. On TC Corbantis I had no trouble at all getting in and did not feel any lag at all, of course I was in Nashal meaning I was the only player for quite a few km's.

I am not a good game person with regards to picking up interface and learning mechanics so it will take me some time to get used to the awkward chat, as well as some of the other things. The character I had only converted over to CL45 and I chose spy. I could not equip either weapon I had on me, DX2 or FWG5 as it said I needed to be CL88.
I could not figure out how to use any of my specials and the new profession screen really didn't help me much either as its very vague.

That being said I look forward to trying it again, of all the things I saw the thing I would most like changed is the profession screen, make it clearer to me what skills I have available and what the heck they do. Also explain how to use the new toolbar thingee. The help option does give you a decent list of answers but you will still feel like a novice no matter how experienced you are I think.

I will take Zyre's example and use this thread to voice my opinions on the NGE.

I got to play the tutorial like 8 times. It was during that 3 day window when everyone got bugged to hell half way up the ramp of the falcon.

From the 24 stormtroopers I killed, I actually kind of enjoyed the new system. The over the shoulder view is actually kind of neat. I never played RE 4, but I hear it's similar. I do like that holding down the attack button lets you rapid fire (even with what looks like a CDEF blaster). When collision detection gets tweaked (I didn't know it was off until my wookiee got double incapped = dead behind the tallest boxes in the hangar) I think the immersion level really WILL increase.

Directing fire in group settings can make for some awesome tactical situations I think. I just hope they can hammer out prevention of the aimbot problem that most people seem to think will happen with more of the game action being performed client side.

I am kind of excited for Test Center to actually let me through so I can start on my officer.

**pulled my old thread and dumping my thoughts in here**

I played the new system for a good hour this morning. I finally got to the next part and ran some quests. Here is a breakdown of what I thought good and bad:

1) I like the quests system they been moving toward this for many publishes but it just feels more streamlined and immersive now. I don't feel left clueless like I have in some other quests. This was a big problem in WoW IMHO.

2) I got used to the combat and the new controls rather quickly. I like how if you shoot the stormies in the head (harder to aim for) they take almost double the damage. Very nice.

3) They need to get object collision up and running. Being able to shoot through objects is not a good thing.

4) Its not as WoW-ish as I thought. The chat bubbles are still there, so the RP remains immersive - not like WoW chat which was an RP killer for me. The chat window I got to stick and it works like the old one where if I start typing my chat bar gets focus. Now I always predicate my talk in spatial with /say so this may not work for everyone as well as it does for me.

5) If you hold down the mouse button you fire at max rate. This saves my fingers from getting tired too quick.

6) The WASD config for moving my toon is way less cumbersome than MMORPG modeless (WoW, EQ2, etc). Having both mouse button down to move through the world is insanely retarded and tiring. I am very pleased with the controls as they are.

7) Clean slate. I can FINALLY PvP (maybe). No more worrying about the other guy that spent 300 million on skill attachments, etc. I get the feeling most will be on an equal playing ground. Despite the fact that it looks like Medic is the most powerful combat profession - I think FOTM is gone for good. I needed this badly.

8) Roleplayers are going to get hit a bit hard on the immersion side. I mean sitting in a space station with Han fixing up the falcon while Boba Fett stands in the cantina looking for him is a bit of a stretch. Not to mention the fact that after 20 minutes of play I got a set of padawan robes and I'm still using a CDEF pistol as my main weapon.

I am sure there is more, but that's my experience in a nutshell. They have a lot of work to do. Most tester are reporting a lot of 'dead' or useless NPC's are cluttering the cities as artifacts of defunct/old quests and that the content in most of the galaxy is in a state of done or not done. Its a hit or miss. Not sure how this is going to go live on the 15th. Hope they don't screw it up again.

At any rate, I am good to go. I'll be around to see how this works out.

It's very hard for me to formulate a concrete opinion of it since I've got to wait for Live to hit really. Going on Feedback here and the Galaxies boards I keep getting the feeling we're getting a carbon copy of WoW.

Turn off for me would probably lay in the following areas:

1) Is the chat as streamlined as we have it now? Right now we can just 'type and go' even during combat. I rather like that. Non-clunky multi-tasking.

2) With the professions/stats set in stone... I'm still left with... where is the variety between 2 alike players with the same profession now? Is a smuggler, a smuggler, is a smuggler.... as it were?

3) With no 'Tabbing' but not being a FPS... just how hard is it for an average 'lock and click' on target player?

I'm guessing the answer to some of this is going to be gear and keymapping? But, everything all of you relate back does help a bit.

My take so far is... I feel queezy that they made such a drastic change so soon after the last one. I like some of what I hear... and some of it I don't.

There's a lot to get worked on. They have to streamline it. The sped up allt he animation to make it go faster but people look retarded walking around. A lot of dea NPC/quests sitting out there too. Dunno, we'll have to see.

Yes. the old keymap is still the same. There are no other keymaps now but I sispect that is because they want players to test it.
2) With the professions/stats set in stone... I'm still left with... where is the variety between 2 alike players with the same profession now? Is a smuggler, a smuggler, is a smuggler.... as it were?
Yes. Kind of disappointing. I was hoping to be able to make a character unique.

It depends on how well you can keep the mouse over the target. What I have read is that they have reduced the amount of communication required between your computer and the server "In the old system, you had to gain permission from the server to send an emote". There were a lot of players on the nOOb space station and even with combat log in verbose (which was causing me to drop to 1 FPS at Ruby Lake) I was doing okay. If they are making this for a console, then that is a far broader customer base and an increase in customers without high speed internet connections.

The station is not devoid of decorations either... there is stuff all over the place. Crates, in the hall, lots of animals in the atrium, lot of plants, a fountain and players running around shooting things and I never dropped to the 1 FPS I experienced as Ruby Lake when I had the combat log in verbose mode.

Got in last night for about 2 hours, was overall impressed... and dissappointed in some of the changes.

Part of me is hoping that for some reason the test center controls are just the new default for testing purposes. That we can still walk at a normal pace and target other "friendly" players without holding our cursors over top of them.

I can honestly say I'm very excited to try a full template character in this system and be in some of the more intense battles. Noob stuff is always amusing... The storyline seems like it will get new characters into a nice Star Wars Movies mood before throwing them out with the veteran players.

All in all the variation in the game remains. You can be whatever you want... A jedi with a blaster? A bounty hunter with a pike?

I do think this fast paced combat will be much more entertaining in pvp. Long battles will not be such a drain on RP. When "Dwilah" decides to gun down "Isleh" because of that comment about her home planet. One of them will most likely be dead within 20 seconds. Unless some creative strategy is brought into the battle. Running for cover for instance.
Switching between melee and ranged combat. Using creative specials like "Isleh" the spies smoke screen: An ability that lets her cloak.

Commando grenades were more fun to use. I imagine high end grenades will do alot of damage and be very potent on the field.

The limited description of the specials is a little annoying...
Not sure if there are any knock downs, or dizzies. I had read somewhere that bounty hunters can slow down there victims... So they must still exist.

Bring it out onto the real servers... and let the testing begin.

One other thing... Doing RP emotes with the targeting as it is? Almost impossible if the other toon is moving.

I just read that walking was untentionally removed and there are no plans to put it back.
