NGE and Playstation Systems...something to think about

With the intent to port SWG over to Playstation systems, does this mean that the publish tomorrow will be the end of new content in SWG? As far as I know, neither the PS2 or the upcoming PS3 will have a hard drive, so if you're playing SWG on a PS2, there will be no way to add content to your game. Kinda makes you wonder about the future of SWG, doesn't it?

Oh, I'm sure they will find a way. Expansions are too good a process for making money....

Only way I can think of that they could do it is something somewhat complicated.

It would mean every newly planned expansion would require them to sell a new 'copy' of the game with any changes in it. Providing free upgrades for things like Hotfixes and Profession changes.

And making people buy a new disc with the 'Expansion Pack' they have planned for any given month. As always only giving access to the new content to the people that update their game.

Only way I can think of for them to do it given that set of examples. I really hope it's not going console though. :???:

They've already said that this will be a process over 6 months. Live games are continually changing. Perhaps for PS* users, they'll have a different system to use where they sample the game off some other server with the live changes. I don't really know--but a live game without updates and content upgrades is ludicrous, and I'm sure they know that.

I'm leaning toward what your saying, Dwilah. At least, I think. I don't see them going console because of all the hotfixes and what not we have to have for the game. Now, they have stated their streamlining so they can better enhance the game. Guess what? WoW does run pretty well... but it still needs hotfixes even if it is a 'dumbed' down game from some of our perspectives.

Now, if we lean towards what Zannon is saying though... then we would be looking at having what their calling 'rock solid' as a game and putting up with whatever bugs are in game for months before a fix and new PS3 disc is sold/we get a publish via the net... but aren't we used that that anyway?

Since on console you can't type, perhaps when this hits live console players will have their server that would be more PvP oriented. I don't really see any other way to bring those players into the game. PC players could then join on such servers, while the opposite way is a no-go. I read somewhere in previous verisions (up to NGE) server needed to grant you permission to do even an emote. Since spatial is same thing and is distributed through server, not P2P ... such specialized server could indeed be set up - not allowing any client sending spatial or emotes (no RP actually). Pure combat server for console and PC users.

(I hope)

Yeah I have never seen a game that is PC and console port able to interact with each other. I am thinking this would be a seperate server for playstation only.

Quake 3 Arena. Dreamcast. Failure.(as far as interopabiblity with a live changing game)

If Q3A Dreamcast player were lucky they'd find some servers that had the correct(old) version of Q3A, on it.

Heard they're gona sale it sepratly.

Any how as for being on a concil it will probably be handled like Final Fantasy. They give it its own server and every so often re-release the game with the expansions in the game. To port your character over all you do is put the memory card with your character from the last version in the game.

I believe that at least X-box will have the option of adding a keyboard.
