I have a problem with my X-Box and was wondering if anyone heard of this problem and if there is a way to fix it. I tried to google it but couldn't find exactly what I was lookin for.
For the past month or so my X-Box will not reconize any of my games or DVD's. It simply gives me the message that this dis is not X-box compatable and so on. It first did this to my older games but I found that after 15-30 minutes it would play the game now it does that for every thing and the wait has grown so long I dont even bother anymore.
X-Box Problem
The optical reader on the drive is/has failed. There are ways to get this fixed, but you're better off just buying a whole new system because saving the $50 replacing it isn't worth the headache you'll have doing it, especially if it's an older X-Box.Jerrel wrote:I have a problem with my X-Box and was wondering if anyone heard of this problem and if there is a way to fix it. Could be your lens needs cleaning...could be your Xbox needs a replacement drive.
I've seen this issue happen with PS2's most often. I took a system appart 2 weeks ago and cleaned it up and fixed this error. If you're handy with a PC's internals, it's pretty simple to replace the xbox's dvd drive...if you don't mind your xbox being a little un-pretty.
If you don't feel comfortable opening it up, your best option is to contact an electronic repair shop...that is, if you don't have a buddy that can help you.

the new xboxes are starting at $400 and going up to around $750. At a guess, if you haven't already pre-ordered and paid for one, you will not be able to get one till sometime in the spring.

I find it funny that Xboxes are failing all over as the 360 comes out.

I've just the one. A buddy and I swap games and toy with programs. He's better at it than I am. I just pick and choose what I like from what he's already done.Lok'i Vidaar wrote:Have I been around another xbox modder for a long time and not known it?

I thought I had mine fixed.... kept on making this whirling sound and what sounds like a skip. I at first thought it was the part that locks the cd in place not working... now... I'm not really sure. It just stops in the middle of movies sometimes... won't recognize movies (some games) that it played just fine the day before. It somehow messed up my KoToR 2 disc as well.

Will any DvD drive work as a replacement... or should I just can this thing right now?

As I understand, any DVD drive will work, but most won't fit INSIDE your xbox. It would have to be connected and left open, or sit on top of the closed box. I recommend poppin' the sucker open and taking a look at the connections to see what will fit, and how much slack you have on the power and IDE cables.

Any XBOX DVD Drive wil work, but must be specifically made for the XBOX...
their is a different kind of connector for the power and eject on thte drive, Plus the drive has the firmware to read the fatx format on the xbox games...
But like I said you can pick up drives cheap on ebay, If you're gonna just trash it though, trash it in my direction, I'll pay for shipping :P
