Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes with little marshmallows on top, these special kind of Sunshine dinner rolls, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, pecan pie...sometimes we throw in corn (for digestion). Edit in...devilled eggs. They're like a family staple for every holiday.
The drama over our Thanksgiving dinners is always over whether or not we actually have this traditional spread or not and who squawks over it. Mom loves to cook and usually every year she wants to try a new recipie that she's found on FoodTV for one of the things mentioned up there. Either it's cornbread and cranberry and pecan stuffing instead of the normal junk or homemade whole cranberry sauce instead of the jellied canned stuff. Occasionally she'll try to substitute something for something bizarre like a pea salad (barf). One year, she bought a turkey breast instead of an entire bird. I was scandalized.
If anybody's seen Stouffer's commercial for like, instant dressing, and knows the cranky old lady who snarks at the end, "What's next, Thanksgiving in a box!?" I've been accused of being that lady. Mom made the accusation with glee.
However, this year Mom's started working full time as a sous-chef in a tea house, and I have been grocery shopping, planning and cooking meals for the family, and prodding Dad into eating on the weekends.
I believe that leaves Thanksgiving under my jurisdiction this year.
POWER!! UNLIMITED POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
As a side note, my favorite thing to eat on Thanksgiving is the stuffing that has been cooked inside the bird. I could just eat that like...forever.
