NGE Good or Bad for SWG
All of you know my opinion I was wondering what those of you who have played it feel now off of first impresions. I'm posting this here because I know some of you have left the game over it after you tried it so this is a general question and pole. If any of the moderators feel that the thread will get the same attention in either the SWG forum or the NGE forum feel free to move it no hard feeling will be had.

I dont like it.
I have seen a lot of threads on the SOE forums boasting about stats. But I would rather see how my real peers feel about it here.
I have been trying since the NGE to adapt, when everything inside tells me to drop it.
I'm staying with the community, where they go, I will follow.

MY vote currently is this: CALL A GAME EXORCIST TO GET RID OF THE POSSESED DEVS!

my thoughts are i am trying to get the hang of it i hate to throw 2 years out the window but the devs need to catch a clue and get things right for a change

I'm not ready to make this decision. Combat has a patch or two left to make it work well, but I have a feeling it's doable. I'm gonna give it a couple weeks, before I make this call.

Normally I wait to give my final answer. In this case I am answering based on what I feel today.. and I chose bad.
Why? The recent changes have severely reduced my desire to play.
I intend to give the game a good chance, but I am not ready to do so right now. If a game changes and you don't want to play it, when I used to want to play it.. that's bad.

I am really getting into the changes now, the feel of the combat is so much better than it was before, I feel like its more in my hands now, not so much the luck of the draw.
Dont get me wrong, its still very unpolished, but I like the direction it is heading.
The only thing that scares me is the amount of people leaving. I hope that turns around. I have even given thoughts of abandoning the guild I am in and trying to find us a new home with someone else, but I haven't even mentioned it to anyone with in UC in the hopes it will pick up again.

I think the NGE is swallowable for ranged players.. For the melee folks its not fun. May main beef is that I combat goes so fast I have no clue what specials fired or not or what I may have done to win the battle or lose it. They took away strategy and replaced it with awkward key mashing.

This is precisely what I'm seeing. Apart from meele/jedi being broken now, I see those who have given it a longer tryout, to like it. I hope I'm not just picking out only the positive responses ...
I myself like it a lot. I have given it a "good" review. It is very immersive, with keys set up right, it can be handled better than the one of CU (I simply don't understand people who complain they would need three hands). It is fast and interesting, leaves little place for error. Comparing it to the degenerated 30 and more minutes long fights at the end of the CU, I find it a blessing.

It's those 30 minute fights that actually required strategy and planning during the fight that made it great. it was like a chess match, and very involving.Oporim wrote:This is precisely what I'm seeing. Now it's over in 10 seconds it's who it's what button's faster, you using the most damaging attack and spam your regular attack and in 5-10 seconds it's over. I don't know I just don't like it, I liked long fights where I had to think. Now it's just a game of checker's.

I think its great, they finally made the decision for me on whether I should continue to pay $30 a month to play or not. I love the people. Hate the game.

Ya I will have to agree with that, I can remeber trackng a Jedi, and fighting with him over 2 days about 30 mins each fight, and it finally cam down to the fact I attacked him inside a Starport and he missed the door and I was able to keep him knocked down in a corner. It was fun for the first while. But for the most part, even those long fights ended up being not really skill but whose mind and/or force bars ran out first. I have yet to do any PvP in the NGE, I have seen lots, it is short, I hope they balance it our some more as we go along. But I still really enjoy the combat now.

That is the one good thing about the NGE.. it makes it easier for those to leave who are so inclined.

The problem is LA/SOE is sitting in a room with an 800lb gorilla called WoW. WoW appeals to gamers who aren't looking for that type of sophistication in their gameplay. Unfortunately for us old schoolers, their numbers are apparently greater and therefore the money is better to attract that crowd.
Many roleplayers and older gamers in general are going to lose out. This is my big beef with WoW: they set a precedent. Its one that some like, its one that others don't like. I happen to hate it. I played WoW for less than 2 weeks before I got bored with being stuck in the same area for the entire time, bland quests and generally slow progression. The lack of any sort of chat interface also prevented me from finding friends that might change that.
Last I heard WoW had like 4 million players. SWG had 300k at its peak. We're not paying the bills as well as kids in high school are, so us old schoolers have been essentially fired by SOE. They want the young kids that discovered cybersex in Azeroth to come try out their new stuff.
Funny thing is these kids playing WoW right now are gonna grow up and want something else thats more challenging. It won't be there. It was there, but now its gone. It was SWG.
After SWG, I am done with MMO's until STO comes out. If SWG gets fixed I will play it again. If STO sucks I'll just call it quits like I did the last time I got sick of the crap. I was on a 10 year hiatus from gaming when I got in to SWG, I'm a patient man. I'd rather quit gaming than play crap.

with a pure FPS game like CS button mashing is good, game like SWG, BAD BAD BAD BAD!!!
Sony really screwing themselves over with this, people who played this game for so long and seen so many changes deserve t oactualy be heard, not be another number. Like you all. Most of you have been here since launch if I member correctly.
