All the faults of this game have inspired me... do we have the collective talent and resources to create our own game here?

Let's make it about penguins. They're popular right now. Space ninja pirate penguins. That dance and have sex and beer. .....have sex in beer. And someone stole their king's hat and they have to retrieve it and your series of quests is centered around helping the penguins get their hat back.

This is called brainstorming. It is a highly refined writer's talent.

My penguin died. He thought he saw the King's hat at the bottom of the Keg. But couldn't resurface because he failed his 'get by the sex crazed penguins at the surface of the barrel' roll.

Do I get to make a new toon?

In this game we have permadeath. You will be visited by the Permadeath Penguin however and they will grant you a special .25% XP bonus for the first five hours of your new toon's life.

Hmmm, but my new penguin can't use the prior penguin's knowledge. So, should I not think the King's hat is still at the bottom of the keg now?

You're transported to another keg-berg where the hat is located elsewhere. You must begin your search anew with new clues and by following a new trail.

So the hat could be in another pinguin now and I've got to figure out how to get it out?

no... seriously... imagine a game set in a story not governed over by some huge company... Imagine having it built around RP, and where building anything is possible.

Imagine we make or midify an engine so that we can tunnel, we can build custom structures, and it's in a server system run by players, and supported by players. No company is going to ignore your voice.

Characters should be customizeable to your heart's desire.

Would you pay 14.99 a month for such a game... where it is guaranteed not to be pulled out from under your feet on a corporate whim?

Do you know anyone else who would pay for such a game?

writing I can almost say would be the easy part.

It's a nice idea, but every structure develops a head or an authority team as it grows. As a player population grows, the desire for new content or possibly bug fixes that couldn't be fixed or content that simply couldn't be delivered would be demanded by the playing populace.

Community starts, develops, and goes through cycles just like we see here. That's not to say it couldn't work, but I think that the original idea would morph into something very different and there would always be players left behind and unsatisfied by something, no matter how much the people running it tried or worked together or listened. Just human nature.

Besides, having 'anything possible'...we've raged against a lot of that in this community and the general game playing populace of SWG has raged against that as well. I wonder if it'd be a good thing.

This isn't to say either that I wouldn't like to have fun with a promising game that interested me and I had a part in...but there's the problems I see. /shrug

I figured you would show up in this thread X'an...

Maybe I can talk to some companies, and see if anyone is willing to allow a project based on their engine...

I wouldnt want to start throwing actual plans out, because anyone with google will be able to see them. But it would be awesome just to see what's available to us.

Just wait for STO man.. LOL The artrwork creeping out form that project has me more excited about Trek than I've been in a decade.
