I spoke with a few other people about what we think of the community's current position.
We have several guilds with reduced membership. Guilds have proven to be the greatest organizational tool the community has had for RP, by collecting players, policing their RP, and providing plots.
I think we should consider combining our guilds. Zyre suggested using guild titles to differentiate between RP styles. Each title would have an elected leader to represent them on a council. On 4 other servers I've visited, <RP> has been present and a rather large guild. (Though, I'm not certain that tag isn't already in use, or exist in some fashion on Gorath)
I heard this was brought up by someone else, recently, but I haven't found the thread.
Most of us use noctchat, now, and enjoy conversing with everyone on it. Having a central leadership for all RPers would help after the NGE hit us so hard. Rather than see an end to what some of us have built, why not combine our efforts, and make something stronger than we had before?
((If ANY rants about the NGE crop up in this thread, I'm going to personally PM that person. Constructive suggestions/disagreements are all that is welcome, here.))
Post NGE RP Community Situation
From experience, in the past and currently, Democracy sucks when you try to run a large guild. Issues can take as long to be ironed out as the damn congress takes. I do realize I would not be part of this equation but I am throwing out a word of caution to be very careful. Politics will pop up where you least expect them. Politics = Drama.
Remember, you aren't all in the same guild now for a reason. It may not be that you don't like each other, but you all have different things you want from a guild. Just make sure everyone is on the same wavelength with this or you WILL have drama.

yeah combining the guilds is a bad idea
it would be better to have a forum where the guild leaders can have a discussion on the rp of nocturnus or the gorath galaxy
hmmm, now where could you go for that?

For those that wanted to do it... I still think <Tales> would be a great idea.
However, what E-bo is saying is right. There is a reason we're not all with <Mercs>, <Templ>, <PrCon>, <TTF>, <MCI>, <MidCo>, etc, etc... we tend to join up with those that have the same... for the lack of a better description... affiliation with gamming that we want out of it ourselves. Overall, that's this forum's purpose; to bring us together on some common ground so we can enjoy the game together.
But that all in the same guild... and things like the guild warring option go out the window. It is a good idea for those wanting to do some collateral damage though. But we might be better off trying to replinish the ranks with new players. And, hey, there is still a chance some of our 'breaking' members will be back after some fixes come.
Time... it's all about patience and time.

What E-bo said. Also it would scrap the guild war idea if we were all in the same guild. There could be a second guild, but then you get people who don't want to participate in it at all... so we get a third guild......

I agree with not joining the guilds together. The individual goals, styles (IC and OOC) of the various guilds would make that quite difficult and make things confusing for those looking to join. And the loss of the PVP aspect of guild wars would be a shame. This is an important part to the realism in RP in my opinion.
From my interactions on the server as well as being amember of numerous forums I feel there are alot of currently unguilded players looking for homes (either their guilds fell apart or they may be new players) that would love to be part of this type of community. The question is how to get the press out there letting people know where you are and letting them know the options available. This is done relatively well on forums but what is done in game? Rebecca had some nice ideas of ways to create RP opportunities that could be considered "active billboards" for the Rp community.
On this forum - I know the guilds are represented on the main page of this site with links to their own sites but maybe having a guild forum (closed to outside posting) where each guild has a description, direction, links overview, contact information, what have you, so that people just on the forums can quickly and easily read them all (no clicking back and forth) and see what sounds like the best fits for them...then contact the listed recruitment officers? Essentially making it as easy as possible for people to see what guilds are openly recruiting and how to get involved... There have been lots of posts here on the forums asking about guilds but its a lot of work for guild leaders or recruiters to constantly be searching for those threads and respond to them, especially when the poster basically just says "l;ooking for a guild" without any information of what exactly they are looking for.
I like the idea of the council, with members from each guild on it for issues resolution, development of overall story arcs, etc and this has been done successfully in the past on many other servers and many other games. The use of private forums for those discussions has worked quite well, with any final verdicts or "guildelines" posted for all community members to see and share in. Or perhaps a dedicated voice channel if people use voice during game play which can speed up the often cumbersome issue of posting back and forth discussion points.
This community seems to have a great foundation even with the "bleeding" from the NGE. There is a lot of momentum here that should make recruitment and re-filling the ranks move smoothly and quickly in my opinion. And there are alot of people willing to step up and help out with whatever direction is chosen.
That to me is the most important part of any process...so kudos Tales for having such a strong team working to make this as much fun as possible for us all

TTF had split into two seperate guilds and we used TTF chat (which kind of turned into Dohrian and friends chat) to keep the guilds in touch.
I think Noc chat would be the best thing to expand on to bring people together. I mean, what features did a single guild really offer besides a consolidated chat?
*Note: The following is a general SWG rant that has existed from Pre-CU to Post-NGE. It has nothing to do with the current changes to the game, only with an existing problem that has never been addressed. While perhaps not purely constructive, it does accurately examine some problems with the solutions being discussed.*
SWG has never really had any useful guild features that most games have. Like an automatic "friend" listing of the guild, we all had to update that manually. Also, things like "last online" that WoW has would be helpful in knowing who your active players are.
As for the chat, the only downfall to creating your own "guildchat" is that you can not try to make it private. For some reason the chat settings in SWG are not properly stored. For the above mentioned TTF chat, we made it private and gave several officers moderator status. The next server reset, the channel was public and the first person to enter it after the server reset became the channel creator and only mod. We tried to run it as a public channel but ban unwanted parties. The ban list also disappears on server reset.
It wasn't really a problem, except when some dorks in LF-1 decided to get into our chat and fool around and we had no ability to stop them. Most people don't even know how extensive the chat options in SWG are, or the ones that do know how broken they are a day later. Most likely, people won't ever find the "RP channel" to mess with it.

<<we interupt this regularly schedule rp scene>
What Iago and I discussed from my point of view is born out of wanting us (those that remain active in the game) to be able to adapt to the attrition
we have had hit us. Both from the prospects of your in game hometown going under or finding yerself in a 2 person guild. It would be ideal if the game allowed you more designations under guild management so for instance a Batty could be;
<TALES>
(Temple)
Batak
In the past people I know used to pine for guildchat if they were solo or their guild defunct. If that is no longer the case or something like Noc chat can suffice then great, thats good. But if you feel somewhat lost, wandering in the desert with no support system then perhaps the notion of a TALES or an RPG (Roleplayers of Gorath) might be a good idea. I knew Batty had mentioned the TALES idea once recently and Iago and I started chatting about our fellow Talies last night. If enough people need a place to hang then maybe the idea will come to fruition, if not it just means that
KRETL will soon be the largest guild in all the land!!

I understand the reasoning behind these ideas, but I have to concur with E-bo. I do think getting everyone you can onto the Nocturnus chat is a huge step in the right direction. At least with that someone who may be unguilded can come and not feel so lonely and get to know people.

/agree E-bo and Shensen.
I further suggest that, in light of yesterdays "rumors", we who are interested in RP do more roleplay and less grinding. Apparently, you can grind to your hearts content in a number of other games, but roleplay capability is less easy to come by.

If someone "fits" with the crowd that's usually on noctchat, invite them. We need to give players a home, no one should feel alone.
Ok, I see may points for not combining guilds...from many people not playing.
This is just a suggestion, it can be adapted. A council of leaders is something I'd like to see.
If anyone sees possibilities in the ideas in this thread, talk to your guild/guild leaders, and send them here to further the discussion.

There are a lot of orphans out there right now. We should be in-gathering them, as fast as possible. We need an RP thread that will bring them together...
What about Dwilah's and the terraforming threat?
What about the immersion wars? Maybe we could develop temporary weekend guilds for the immersion wars...anyone got a story that could include some normally not playing in the guild wars?

I fail to see what difference it makes if the people making these points are playing or not when many of the points brought to the table were very relevent. Also have to remember that some who aren't playing have just adopted a "wait and see" stance and don't want to pay to play what is essentially a "launch-state" game. I for one logged in last night to check out the latest fixes and had a blast now that my profession is actually playable. Not only did I not get my butt handed to me by gray con lava fleas, but now the those same buggers are green con and I was able to take on multiples (Yay).IagoBoom wrote:If someone "fits" with the crowd that's usually on noctchat, invite them. Btw, thanks to the folks I grouped with last night. We were all able to get a set of LS/DS Knight robes.
The flea missions were nerfed hard (which must be why the fleas were so bountiful), but the regular missions still gave out nice xp rewards.
