Turns out it's more tragic than that:
There was no evidence the man had a bomb, CNN reported. CBS said a woman who claimed to be the mans wife said he suffered from a bi-polar mental condition and had not taken his medication.
So the dumb person here was him AND his wife. Jesus H Christ. Why don't people TAKE THEIR MEDS??!? Or, conversely, how about if they're not taking their meds their SO's keep them from boarding airplanes? Ugh.

I'll even mispell it the same way this time: Its a beutiful thing when dumb people get shot.

Well, I know alot of mentally ill folks or chemically inbalanced(I have no idea the PC terminology here) are resistant to taking meds. They want to be able to take care of it on "their own".
Still, the guy is biopolar. Why didn't his wife make him take his meds? It almost sounds like she didn't give two shits. Probably wanted to collect insurance money...

what's even better is that the Gate Agents are not supposed to board drunk people, but I've seen and reported people to gate agents that could barely speak or stand, but they get shuffled on all the same...they usually become total assholes if they don't fall assleep...

It's actually more saddening than it is vindicating.
The dude had bipolar disorder. That's a real life illness, folks. It's no more "wonderful" than shooting someone with down syndrome for freaking out on a plane.
Sure, the marshal did what he had to...anyone running around claiming to have a bomb and reaching into their bag definately has a one way ticket to getting shot, no arguments here. And in today's world, it's sad that we couldn't have just taken his wife's word when she said, "He's mentall ill" and subdued him as they would have any other mentally ill person, instead of plugging him.
Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.
As for why he wasn't taking his meds? Who knows. There are crap loads of reasons why manics don't take their meds. Odds are good he was on lithium. It's a traditional scrip for manic depressive that tends to work well to control manic episodes, but it can make you sicker than hell.

Apart from this incident there are still significant issues that need to be addressed. What about the person(s) who don't declare that they have bombs, guns, etc. making themselves easy targets?
This question hits close to home as I've worked in the aviation industry, military, commercial, and now private for 14 years. Of all of the places I've witnessed most of them I could sneak a baby elephant into. False modesty aside, I am one sneaky mofo. But that notwithstanding, I can say without coming close to being an alarmist that the air industry, among others, is still wide open to even half competent attackers.

Get in line behind Skor ;). Who still hasn't filed for his gun permit, I'd bet.
