I currently have 1 gb (2x512) of dual channel ram, corsair select...timings 3-3-3-8 if I remember correctly

but with some xmas cash was thinking about buying this as an upgrade, since I need more ram

Do you have DDR2 running in dual channel or standard DDR in dual channel?

One note about timing, if I may. Memory timing is only as good as the setting on the system timer(memory controller).I f the board will only support access for the 60ns module and replaced it with a 70ns chip there would be no difference really as I would still be limited by the motherboard's system timing (ie the chipset--which controls the memory controller). Most newer motherboards will automatically select the fastest timing in the BIOS in auto detect mode.

Keep in mind that faster timing is not always a good thing as the faster read/write access can cause system instability. This is also the reason why most servers use ECC RAM due to the speed of memory access in the newer modules.

** Not all RAM is compatible with all boards so unless the memory is off of a configurator it's hit or miss really in my opinion. Make sure the reseller has a good return policy just in case***
