J.K. Rowling readies pen for final Potter book
story here
If I was her, I'd never stop writing about Harry Potter...tho I'm all about gaining enough money to rule the planet

It'll be like "retired" rock bands coming back for a victory tour in 10 years with seats selling for $250 apiece. Gotta take that break and try something new and less fruitful (see solo careers of Mick Jaggar, Pete Townshend, Robert Plant, David Gilmour). She'll be back to it and making buckets of cash again some time around 2016.

I hear you there, I've never read any of the books or seen any of the movies, but if you've got a good thing going why stop?
To me these seem a lot like many of the Fantasy books I used to read by RA Salvatore, the thing is no matter how unrealistic they get people will continue to buy them to just to see what happens to the character's they've fallen in love with.

I've never read or seen them either, but the way people desribe them to me remind me of the Sword of Shannara books, written by Terry Brooks...
where the fantasy realm is so well written, you get so involved with the story you cannot put it down...all of Terry Brook's books have done that for me, not just his Shannara series...
he also wrote the book for SW:PM

I love the Shannara series of books! Unfortunately I've never managed to finish them all, I need to get back into those, they were definately great books.

DUDE. You seriously owe it to yourself to read them. Just bring some with you next trip up to the cabin.
And ten bucks says she does the years after they all graduate, if Harry lives to become an Auror. He's too interesting of a character to not talk about his life after Hogwarts.

It's your loss. It's like saying you refuse to get pulled into Star Wars or refuse to have fun. It's not like you regain your virginity or anything if you read it. We're not in Jr. High anymore ;P

like I'd want my virginity back...it's just that the stories don't appeal to me...the whole kiddie wizards/hogwarts/muggles thing just doesn't do anything for me

Harry is going to die and that's that.
I am 99 percent sure that her "christ child" (Please tell me we all see the similarities here. It's a slightly new spin on the oldest story ever told, face it) is going to bite it in order to ensure that evil is truly vanquished.

I love fewer things more than a good story and while I am a big fan of the Harry Potter books I know every good story has to have an ending. If there is no ending to the Potter series then eventually it will decay into something far less beloved than it currently is.
Let the poor kid have a year where people are not trying to kill him, that doesn't have some mystery and where SOMEONE he loves gets to live for a change. Basically, let the kid have a boring life.
The author said from the beginning that she knew how she wanted to end the series. That means she's had a beginning and an end the whole time and never intended to just keep running with it. She deserves to end the series.
Besides, J.K Rowling has proven she is a great storyteller so give her the chance to try something new. There is a good chance she will not disappoint.

HOW WOULD YOU KNOW, YOU NEVER READ IT.
I used to say Porn didn't appeal to me either 'till I cracked open a magazine.

Amen. If anyone's read the Wheel of Times series--this has unfortuantely happened to that series. (Though fairly, Dad says the end seems near and the latest book seems to be coming back to the semblance of a plot.)

just because I haven't read the actual books, doesn't mean I know nothing about it
I knew about naked chicks and sex even before I cracked open a nudie mag
