Heard Through the Grapevine
A friend of mine that plays WoW said they got put on a server logon waiting list last night. Is it fo' reelz that heavy over thar in fantasy land? Also...what sort of business problems (if any) do you think it'll cause Blizzard? I mean, compared to SOE, who has problems keeping customers due to crappy customer service because of everything we know...what about Blizzard, who appears to be having some crappy customer service based on the fact that everyone wants it and they can't keep up?? Any press on this?

Even when I had Cable I got that a few times. Typically, just means the server is heavy from my experience.
Worst problem I've had with WoW; Seemed to have No customer service as opposed to SWG's crappy customer service. Or, in other words, you felt just as lucky there to even get a response as opposed to our dumb responses on SWG.
I think they'd just say... 'working as intended' there at Blizzard.

High population servers sometimes have queues to log on during prime-time. It ususally takes less than 5 min to get on.
I heard that WoW servers were subject to a denial of service attack a couple of days ago and people were having a hard time getting on. All the servers had long login queues.
Blizzard does seem to add new realms (servers) pretty regularly. I don't really know if they are keeping up with demand or not.

I'd say that Blizzard is ecstatic to have queues for server logons. Especially if it only takes 5 minutes for a slot to open up.
That means that their server is full, so the game is still in high demand, and that has never happened once (except for launch day, which doesn't count) in SWG.

It's definately a good problem to have.
I play on a high-pop server and I enjoy it. To me, it's worth the occasional login queue and "city lag" to play on a server that is FULL of people.

I've spent more time in WoW:
1) Using retarded patch system that discourages use of firewalls.
2) Waiting in server queues.
I resolved both problems by quitting.

I dunno I always get the thing that says I could patch faster without a firewall and I usually just download from the alternate link. its quicker.Jabe Adaks wrote:I've spent more time in WoW:

Server queues have never been more than 10 minutes for me.

And for real it is that heavy there...so much so that last press says that 5 new realms were just created for the new demand this past week.
As far as business problems compared to SOE, well I'd say that the recent spike in WoW demand may be in part because of SOE's recent customer relations issues.
Personally, I've never had a "crappy customer service" moment with Blizz, whether getting in or playing the game. I'll take a 10 min logon everyday and twice on Sunday rather than chronic piss offs and letdowns.
I'm sure those bad moments WILL come, but due to my last 2+ years of gaming experiences my crap threshold has become very high.

The problems are stemming from all the recent "trial" subscription discs that shipped for free in a recent Maxim magazine. I'm sure lots of folks got this under the tree this year so I'm sure that has some bearing.
I was a bit disheartened but I understand the reasons. I was in a queue to one of my servers for about 30 minutes which sorta pissed me off. I just did some household chores and came back and I was logged in so I guess it wasn't too bad =)

Maybe Blizzard is feeling guilty about all of the craziness regarding idiots leaving their children to die in order to go play a damn video game. Maybe they are trying to encourage maturity and responsibility (like Ill doing housework) by randomly denying service to people for different lengths of time.Illbleed wrote:The problems are stemming from all the recent "trial" subscription discs that shipped for free in a recent Maxim magazine. Probably not. But it's nice to pretend.
