I've actually done this a few times...as a matter of fact, my first ever server-wide event used them (If I remember right, that was how I met Oeree).

It works pretty well. Seret, Jabe, and I were working on a pretty cool improvement to the vendor/mission giver idea using the forums and SWGTales, but that fell by the wayside a while back.
