Recharging the Batteries: Favorite Episode 4 Scenes, Anyone?

As cliche' as these "Favorite" Threads go, I couldn't resist. I just watched Episode 4 (Special Edition w/Original Solo vs. Greedo scene inserted) for the googleplexeth time to "recharge the SW batteries".

As many great scenes as there are, for years two of them have consistently given me -ahem- goosebumps more than any other scenes in Episode 4.

1.) The first time Obi-Wan Kenobi sees the message from Princess Leia.
Just something about the hologram. A sincere little Pixie is pleading for help from a wise old warrior. "This is our darkest hour." It just gets me. *shrug*.

2.) When Luke starts calling the shots in the Death Star assault. He gives a course change to Wedge and Biggs and they make the second try at the trench.

Up until that point Luke has been swept along through events out of his control.

With that order for a course change it's like he's changing the course of his life at the same time. He could have easily just as well bailed. Mannnn, you can't even talk to me during that scene.

Anyone else get "magnetized" by the same scene each time during Episode 4 ? What was the scene(s)? And tell why you think it makes you feel that way.

I still get goosebumps when they are in the trash compactor. I know they are going to make it, but it still freaks me out each time.

When Obi-Wan first starts talking to Luke about the force. I have goosebumps typing this..

His tone is patient but with hint of sadness.. as if all hope is hanging by a thread.

"For a thousand generations the Jedi were protectors of peace and justice in the galaxy. Before the dark times. Before the Empire."

Yeah, that is a good one now that you mention it.

"Luke, you've turned off your targeting computer."

BOO. YA.

I love it.

Also, when Han comes flying out of the sun to wax Vader's backside.

"That's no moon..."

"That too big to be a..", says Han, his voice losing confidence.

Your choices are great! I thought of another one that I always felt and maybe even more now that we see him as a young man in these earlier movies.

When Luke tells "Old Ben" that his droid is looking for someone called "Obi-Wan Kenobi" and you see that look on Alec Guinness' face -- the music harkens back to so long ago a time he had almost forgotten even it had been so long. You can just like see the flashbacks going through his mind and imagine. "Obi-Wan Kenobi...Obi-Wan...now that's a name I've not heard in a long time...a long time." Maybe it's a moment hero worship that gives me the goosebumps. I loved Obi-Wan as a character (ok, differently than Han Solo but you know what I mean). He was the wisened Shaolin teacher or samurai warrior.

I would have to agree, in fact the more I think about it.. Much of what Obi-Wan said in Episode IV sent chills. He had such a presence.

Not just in what he said, but also in what he did. He was driving the bus, in a very subtle way. Very Gandalf-esque if you think about it. He had all these powers, but accomplished 99% of what he needed to with his intellect.

It was more Sir Alec Guinness than it had to do with Lucas or anyone else. I really think if he did not play Obi-wan, Star Wars may not be what it is today.

You took the post right outta my mind. If anyone's ever seen Lawrence of Arabia with Alec Guiness playing Prince Faisal it's very easy to see and hear Obi-Wan Kenobi inside. Or maybe it's vice versa.

Not to mention that the whole movie is shot not far from where the desert scenes of Episode 4 were shot.

Any other favorite scenes, though?

Without needing much thought....

Han Solo on the comm after wiping out the officers and stormies in the detention center...

"Uhhhhh.....had a slight weapons malfunction. But..... everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine......How are you?"

With all that is sweet and holy I love that part.

Oh yes, that is one of my favorites. I love how Han winces as he is talking as if to say "oh crap, that sounded lame".

"We're fine.. were all fine here.. How are you?"

I actually use that in RL when I drop something and I don't want to the people who hear it to come in the room. :D
