They talk about making sure people are socializing and RPing because they're vital to the community...le angst sigh. But it's great to hear them talk about it...it's nice to hear from real people, you know? It's cool to hear about something like traps being added into the game.

"its all about the player"

"we set up a website very early in the development to get player input, what they want/like."

"we are open and honest with our players"

That really brought back memories.
It's really freakin' sad.

The original vision kicked butt. Why did they stray?

Oh yes. The days of running around in bone armor all over Tatooine, thinking I'm kick ass... until I run into a guy with composite armor. Ah yes, those were the days (of extreme nooby-ness and embarrassment).

Weren't those the same days the Devs bullshitted us every chance they got (just like now). So if you think about it, it's the same shitty game, just with a different look. It's like dyeing crap blue. It's still crap, just looks different.

Hmm, maybe that's a bad example... Now that I think about it, it's more of a piece of blue crap, and they turned it into blue metal (bare with me I'm tired). Different controls, but the same look (there we go!).

But anyway, those days were fun, those days were not so fun. Those days were exciting, and those days were full of staring at my house wall for thirty minutes. In all truthyness (thanks David Colbert), I enjoy the NGE a lot better then anything else. The other two systems to me seemed so dull. Back then, it was more based on how much credits you had on ya, rather then what kills you actually had at the game. Now it's different, a lot different. Yeah, they destroyed so many professions because they were to fucking lazy to actually do any work for once, but even still, there is fun with this new coming of shit.

I'm actually running around SWG and taking pics of all the things I want to see implanted. That's why I made that stupid, pointless, incoherent post about "Do you think they should add..." They have many variants of ST armor in the game... why not make it player available? They have many variations of marine armor, etc. They have, so far I've seen, two cybernetics that only NPCs have. Nym and some rebel pilot trainer on Dathomir at the Science outpost have them. They aren't the full arm either, but rather starting from the elbow and to the hand.

Anyway, I don't know why I just wrote all of that. I have no life, I admit it.

In retrospect, I imagine a new player today probably feels a lot worse off than when we did back at launch. Why? Because now they've got an entire fanbase to explain things to them. Back then... it was just us discovering everything together because it was new.

More motivation for the Devs and LA to fix it you'd think. I think their trying to make a fun game at this point... but I don't think they know how to salvage continuity of the franchise and keeping the current playerbase happy at the same time.

But, all and all, I think everyone is right. There is salt to everyone's point of view. I can see that now. You can shine a turd and dip it in gold. But it's still a turd. At the same time; If you like that turd... well... you should have fun with it.

People miss the old game. It's like having a favorite sweater get torn up. You go out and buy a new one exactly like it; but it just doesn't feel right compared to the one you had.

Yeap... I'm in babble land too now. : p

A trip down memory lane for sure.

*whipes a small tear from her eye*

I still remember my first day in SWG. I have never experienced more magic in any game before, to date. Running around Mos Eisley with my little cdef weapons. Achieving Pistols I in Marksman was like WOW.
A desert Squill was trained into town and killed half the newbies (red con) was too funny. I think my very first char I created on Chimeara is still there, right where I left it when I swapped to Gorath after 1 day, to play with my american friends.
They brought me into their guild, the tailor made me a suit of clothing. I was in awe. Brought me hunting on Dantooine.

In the tavern I saw music, dance and doctor buffs for the first time.
My first encounter with the Sisterhood of Darkrealms and roleplay, they were entertaining the masses by dancing, flirting and making people laugh. First time I saw Anwe Anosi *giggles*
One of my guildies whispered, be careful you don't get too close to them. You might end up in their dungeons serving as a pleasure slave.

On Dantooine that day, one was doing Teras Kasi, another was a Doctor, a couple were working on carbineer and rifleman. I advanced to Pistol III in a couple of hours and I was exstatic.

I took on the Emperors Retreat the day after, doing the theme park solo and got my arse handed to me. Back to working with Pistols. I spent 4 hours reaching Pistols IV and I could feel the effect of having achieved the simple bleed special.
Cries of Alderaan. I had a spawn on the far side of Yavin. No mount, no vehicles, Pistols IV. Yavin was a HUGE challenge. Took me hours to walk across, dodging very dangerous mobs. Burstrun ftw! I couldn't handle the Imperials I was sent to kill, so I had to return to my guildies and ask for help.

ah yes, those were good times and we made many good times afterwards. I pray will we have many good times to look forward to.

Frankly, if you look at the combat, it really was way too slow. Of course, that slowness made it easier to learn as a newbie. But for the experienced player, the speed of NGE fighting is much more realistic.

I can also now see why they removed so many of the fighting flourishes ... needed pre-NGE to reduce the boredom of fighting. My favorite TK move, well, it would be so quick now that I wouldn't be able to see it all, and only Superman would be able to move that fast.

I strongly suspect that going back to pre-NGE fighting would be a severe disappointment. However, pre-NGE professions, with mix and match abilities... that's a different story.

The speed in the original game was perfect, imo. CU was slower, I didnt like that.. but NGE is worse, way too fast. A series of flourishes nobody can see. The artful executions are gone. Granted, in the days of Teras Kasi Masters ruling the melee world, the spam of /knockdown, /dizzy and /unarmedhit3 wasnt awesome strategy but it was a kind of strategy they could have expanded on and the flourishes, visually were nice. Pikeman had some of the best animations, I loved that class.

As for multi professions, most definetely. I long for the time where I could be a Dancer and a combat class without being a low CL eww you dont pwn, go away.

Anyhoo, I think the key for us roleplayers is much more than simply combat. Its just one major part of the game but there's definetely more we miss.

I miss the first few months right after launch. We were all noobs, all discovering new things, PvP was awesome and fun and almost everyone participated and came back until everyone was black-barred. Getting my ass kicked by chubas and Nunas. Group rancor hunts with medics, pets, and camps. There weren't any super buffs, super armor, super weapons.

That time has long since passed so while most seem to mourn the loss of the CU or the Pre-CU days, I mourn the loss of the post launch era (bug ridden as it was, but hey bugs are the one constant since launch) and that has long since passed lol.

Just had an afterthought. I remember sitting in the med center in Daeric tending the wounded as my screen shook with the concussive blasts of launcher pistols/grenades and congratulating Asylumsghost on making Master Commando (this first any of us knew of at the time) and feeling like OMG he Pwns now. :P

being a relative newbie and an aspiring Teras Kasi Master (omfg they pwn) on one of my first Dathomir hunts. My meeting with rancors meant death but these near Master TKs could handle them. Omfg they own!

Group hunts were so much fun, if the melee tank died it was fun watching the ranged people scatter all OVER cause they were running in panic getting owned by mobs. Back then armor didnt mean jack, if you were ranged and the mob came after you, you'd BETTER be kiting until the melee is back on his feet :D

Oh I loved my broken carbineer special that let me constantly keep a player/creature kd'd if things got ugly. I loved carbineer and squad leader. RIP.
