Group Smuggling Info...

Had a deal go bad on me about an hour ago.

Rebel Client wanted to RolePlay being smuggled out of an Imperial Town by shuttle. The Imperial city Devouron on Lok has planted an Imp Outpost in their town facing the ticket terminal side of their Shuttleport. Pretty damn clever if I do say so myself.

Soon as Client shuttle in, they were jumped, killed, and cloned about 1km away in...another Imp Outpost north of Devouron, lol! Client wanted to RP the situation and called Keer.

So, I'm thinking "No problem, I'll group with you, use my Master Smuggler 95% Scan Evasion and we'll both hop the shuttle out." I go and they get blasted again, wrecking a Swoop this time in the bargain. Luckily, a Dewback was available and we RP'd Keer leading them on an overland hump wayyy back to Nocturnus.

I'm going to post this question on the SOE Forums, but I was wondering if anyone here knows why this didn't work? Is it a TEF situation? Will TEFs trump being grouped with a Smuggler?

Given:

-Client had been killed once by same AT-ST and Stormtroopers that did it when grouped with me.

-Client was Covert the entire time after I grouped.

I'm pretty sure being with a Smuggler only hides contraband, and doesn't defeat Covert detectors.

I never heard the fact that Smugglers can avoid Covert Detectors. I thought they could only avoid being scanned for contraband.

I do think there are droids now that help you avoid Covert Scanners. I think Keer needs to talke to Mess'tar Dooo and get himself one of those. Something he can RP with though, like a 21-B or Protocal. Keer needs a droid companion like Dash Rendar (whom I don't like but I'm using him as an example).

If you are right and you can avoid Covert Detection with your Underworld skills then maybe it was them and not you that was the problem. You skills may help you right now but those Scanners would still detect those in your group. Then if those in your group are attacked you would be as well.

In a nutshell, just another Smuggler trait that needs attention.

Keer needs a droid companion like Dash Rendar (whom I don't like but I'm using him as an example).

I decided that a while back and used the same Dash Rendar model that you mentioned, Seret. I didn't know about any covert scan detection ability though. Yep, if only I knew Dooo then. Grrr.

And the cherry on top was when I found out that LE and PO droids can't be named like Probots and R2s. I bought one of each and had some slick names for both of 'em. DOH!

And g'head and craft another padlock for me, because, if you're correct then now we have another thing that Droids can smuggle better than a Master Smuggler.

-Droids that can hold 10 items safely with 100% Scan Evasion and no Skillpoint Cost .

-Droids that can mask Covert Rebels from detection with no Skill point cost.

I think he meant "at the time" when he tried that originally.

But the only problem with the droid angle is that anyone can use the droid; it's not a Smuggler-only item, if it even exists at all.

Also, for that Shuttleport, you couldn't pull the droid out fast enough; the covert detection is instantaneous as soon as you appear in the world.

I tested out the smuggling via droid storage thing and I don't think it works. Granted this was when the crackdown first came online, and I may be confusing it with stormies detecting my rebeliousness, but I digress. To what do I digress? I don't know. Bye bye.

Sorry Seret, but for that faction base/shuttle port combo - I really love Devouron. That base used to get raided up and down and now nothing. Nobody touches it. I'd pay money to watch a Rebel spawn at that shuttle - I think its a beautiful thing.
