I always wanted to do this

rc battleship combat

they have balsa wood sides, and they use BB cannons to shoot each other

they also have water pumps to keep from sinking

That sounds cheaper than the tank combat. The motors these guys use range from 500-1k per motor.

I have a crap ton of stuff left over from my model airplane days.
I have a radio and servos and crap I have set aside for doing other stuff, but I am too lazy to finish any of my plans. I still have two or three complete planes stored in Dad's garage with the rest of the fleet.
We have a bomb dropper that we never tried attaching to a plane, but we talked about it a couple weeks ago. We havent fired up one of those planes in years.

I dunno I just looked up the "big gun" model warship deal. They fire ball bearings at each other!

Yeah, when you lose at that, you lose EVERYTHING.

I'm sure it ain't cheap, and I don't think losing the money invested is what hurts.

Oh hell no. I have been checking out the construction techniques. These guys take years to build some of these rigs. They have a section about sending all the parts out to a shop to have them cut-out with a computer/laser deal. (we had one in shop class but I forget what the hell they called it)

Anyway I am more into tank combat. I think the whole paintball thing would be more fun. They have videos on that site I linked. At the end of the day you take your tank home and wash it off, repair MINOR damage, and go to bed. Some of these ship guys probably cry themselves to sleep.

I crashed a $200 plane that I had learned to fly on.

Then I crashed my low wing stunt plane the next year. I was pretty upset.

In both cases they were destroyed beyond repair but the radio unit and engine survived.

my brother was not so lucky... He had a minor wreck with his first and only plane. After repairs and a new skin, he smacked it into a bridge. nothing was recovered aside from the radio receiver. It was also a spectacular sight though. :)
