Bad Post

A friend of mine just sent me a link to a post on some board. Here is that post....

I found this post really ticked me off. If you really look at the way he talks about what went on and his remark about "CSRS or whatever their hired nerds are called" shows me this guy doesn't even play the game nor have any respect for it.

You can stand outside the line and make remarks on what you've heard and then act smart about it but what does that make you?

What I'm curious about is if any of you know how much of this guy's post is fact. From the screens looks like their was a protest and they did threaten to shut it down. I really doubt people got "teleported into space."

You know, I just checked Interpids forums and it looks like there isn't a lot of people hating SOE, but rather the guild that went around tipping people at random with bad credits. It appears the appeal process re-instated a bunch of account really quickly.

How did all this happen anyway? How do you counterfeit credits in the game?

Not like I'm going to try it. It's crazy easy to earn in this game as it is. I'd send in a ghost CC# for my account before I did that.

I heard something about this...they like, posted a message about threatening to shut down areas of the server or something because of some protest, apparently. I don't really know. I don't really care. *sigh* Yes, I know I would if I was somehow involved and got banned innocently, I would care, but...at this point, I can't. People were being idiots and asshats in the game and it ruined an experience for several players and probably for a couple of CSRs and made a lot of bad days all around.

Apparently the credit dupe occurred when people pulled money from their guild hall at a specific time. I don't know the exact details but thats what it involved.

In order to get banned SoE would have a record of you doing this dupe and if you recieved bad credits it would have to be in the millions. So if you recieved 50 million credits from some guy you would get banned. Like Zannon said they reviewed cases one by one and reinstated a lot of people who didn't know they got duped credits.

I don't see a reason to hate SoE. Some people say they were guilty until proven innocent but the fact remains that SoE went off of cold hard data to stop these jerks from ruining the in-game economy. Personally I love the way the player-based enconomy runs and I'm all for SoE stopping anything that will ruin that.

I'm all for what they did. I think I'm just tired of anti-SOE, anti-Lucas, anti-SW freaks that seem to be propogating the game and community lately. It's so freaking negative. Let the people do their job, for goodness sakes. They're trying their best to maintain a fair playing environment.

Well I thinking dumping on the demonstration was bullsh!t, but I can't blame them for temp banning most. They had to isolate all the effected accounts like a quarantine zone until the right credits were deducted.

Unfortunately because of the self sustaining economoy, which I believe is unique to this game, they can't afford counterfeited credits to be going around. Inflation would spin out of control and legit gamers not favored by the dupe would be screwed because things like armor would go for millions.

I am still curious as to how they pulled it off.

This is why I spend vastly more time here than I do on the SOE forums. The people here are generally looking for ways to have fun versus waxing (pseudo)intellectual about how everything sucks and how "I told you this would suck back in October".. blah blah.

Agreed. Though I think if SoE shut down the protest it was because that many people in one place would cause nothing but problems for the server. I don't think they would shut it down because people where complaining.

The SOE boards are riddled with nothing but rants and complaints and people grandstanding about their characters like they're some sort of god. We have all kinds here, from newer players to veterans, and not once will you see us talk on two different levels.

For example, Lok'i is fairly new to the game. He's really picked up the gist of it very fast but there is still a lot he's learning about. If he posts here about something thats new to him but old to us you won't see us griefing him about it. If he were to do the same thing over on the SOE boards you'd see about a dozen folks talking down to him and shouting "newb" like its a 4-letter word. Oh... wait... it is.... well you know what I mean.

Back on topic, I just hate when I see non-SWG players commenting on whats going on in the game and bashing it. They have no room to gripe if they're not around for the warnings and the cold hard facts.

I've posted maybe 5 times on SWG official boards since I registered at SWGtales. I only check the Dev tracker anymore to see what new stuff is happening.

It's so funny, people all assume that SOE is just trying to silence the protesters. That many people in one place lags the hell out of the game for all those people that are actually trying to PLAY it. Make your complaints people, but don't lag out a friggin city. They purposely do it to try and lag it out. That's akin to a DoS attack, and under different circumstances, it's a violation of federal law.

I agree with all of you. These boards are so much better. I was starting to think no one liked SWG from the SOE boards it was very depressing. So I would just like to thank all of you for putting this together and the last week or so since I've joined these boards has been my most enjoyable SWG experience to date. So thank you all for your contributions and your attitudes here, it really makes a difference. And I hope I'm able to add something here and in game that will increase your enjoyment of the game.
