yeah i dont believe those numbers for a second. I'm calling fake. Theyd have merged servers by now if they were that low

25 servers x @ 400 each = 10,000
depending on the time of day, I bet that's right on the money

Bump those numbers up by about... 100-200 and I think it's about dead on. Just going by the number of different people I've seen across Ahazi and Gorath during different points of the day and days of the week at different locations on the server.
Overall though, accurate or not, populations are low. The exact number... I don't think anyone but SOE has.

Without a time and date, those numbers are useless. Did he post a time and day when he got these numbers? The differance is the same as, North bound I395 into DC on the weekend at 2AM and North bound I395 into DC on a weekday at 7AM.
And honestly, posting that information on the SOE boards was the height of stupidity. I rank that along with robbing a store and then standing in the crowd watching.

/agree Isleh. During my clothes sorting project, I've logged in all 3 of my characters, serially. Their friends' lists have some overlap, but not a lot. I can easily count over 60 people logged in at times, and I doubt that I know well over 15% of the server population.
The thing about Gorath is, with it's European and American population, that 350 to 400 are probably on at all times. And I'll bet that most of them are "casual" players, on for 2 to 4 hours a day - and not on at all on some days.

I still can't get over how stupid posting that message was in the attempt to prove how smart they were. Do you think SOE would be wrong in making the following claim?
"It is confidential information obtained illegally an made public with the intent to defame SOE and in turn it's parent company Sony."

Some people just want the truth to be told
they're tired of living behind the lies

Yes, but if that was the case, they would have included a time an date that would make these statistics meaningful.Skorixor wrote:Some people just want the truth to be told

Without that information, people will assume that is the peak usage as most people here are doing.
Since they omitted that information, their intent is not to inform and tell the truth, but to defame.

Good point. This info could be based on right after a server restart in the middle of the week.

The numbers are from prime hours, about 9pm CST - its posted in the original thread. Ther server IP's and port numbers are accurate, they used to show in Xfire so I know they got their facts straight.
With the correct hacker tools you can count concurrent UDP connections that are on a remote server (e.g. number of players in this case). Pretty sad.

Other companies freely show how many players are on.
if you check the camelot herald for DAOC you can see exactly how many are on each server.

Omitting the date and time information in an attempt to hide when the act was perpetrated was pointless since SOE knows what time the servers generate statistics like this. In fact, they may even know exactly when this information was gained. SOE has an exact pattern of numbers to match across 25 servers.
Unless of course each server was looked at at different times. If that is the case, it was not presented as such and again, the intent is to deceive.

So I stand corrected. Weekday or weekend? Maybe I don't want to knowJabe Adaks wrote:The numbers are from prime hours, about 9pm CST - its posted in the original thread. Ther server IP's and port numbers are accurate, they used to show in Xfire so I know they got their facts straight.

But the way it sounded, it seemed like some Mission Impossible type thing was going on to get the information. Looks more like standing outside and counting the number of people walking in.
