Long Hiatus

Hello everyone,

I'm writing to let you all know that I will be taking a hiatus from Star Wars Galaxies. You may have noticed (or not been able to see through all of the Ekade's spam :P ) that I have not been posting as much, nor have I been signing on all that often.

As of now, I'm kinda just bored with the game.

There was a time back in April when I was going to cancel my accounts (had I known you could do it from the station, my accounts would have been long gone), but I stayed because I started doing something different. I started roleplaying more and caring about the game mechanics, PvE, and PvP a lot less.

Well, unfortunately, not even the RP could hold my interest well enough to keep my from "straying." Don't get me wrong, there is some killer RP going on Gorath on a daily basis, but the problem is we are always the same ones and we have our limitations.

Not only that, but as you all know, Patch 10 goes live today. I told myself that if Patch 10 (aka The New Jedi Influx) went live without the TEF restored that I was done. Although most of you wouldn't believe it, I've grown to hate the "jedi" in this game far more than Nyase. To see their population nearly double in one day with the BH Joke system in place as the only thing to keep them in check is really a slap to the face of everyone playing this game without a jedi or desire for one.

The Jedi, the broken systems, the limitations, they've all grated on me. Nothing has possibly grated on me more than the monotany, though. I log on every day with my main looking for more poeple to do lot trades with for my alts, harvest minerals, restock my vendors, rinse repeat. When I find something fun to do (ie. a total in character defense of the Emperor's Retreat from the citizens of Triumph Naboo), I'll always get someone doing their best to ruin my fun (ok, you beat me with a suit of composite and a fencer template while I was unbuffed, in uniform, and spending more time shouting "Imperial" phrases than shooting, yet you still gloat?).

Over the past week, I haven't been logged on with my characters for over an hour total.

Now, why am I typing all of this out? Just in case anyone has wondered where I've been. I'm not leaving the game (so don't worry about trying to grab whatever you can out of my buildings, Nyase). I'll keep paying like an idiot and every now and then logging on to check my maint and vendors. I just won't be actually playing much.

On a side note, I've just started playing Baulder's Gate. Yesterday I played for almost 9 straight hours. I remember when Star Wars Galaxies was like that for me. Maybe it'll be that way again. All I know is it's not now, and that means it's time to walk away.

You'll be back. To steal from Griggs, JTL is just around the corner(tries not to laugh while saying that)

I'll miss you. Don't stay away too long.

BIG respect to you and your motives Tramel. Even true SW fans can find that "the thrill is gone" for them.

Hope that you find fun regardless of the brand name.

I have been wondering about you. I noticed your dropoff immediately. :D

I figured something was up. I remeber when you were like this before.

1) F-BOMB maintaining harvesters. Once I dropped Tailor and Artisan, my gaming became less of a job. DO THAT. Seriously. You are a bonehead for not doing so already. :)
2) When you come back, focus on the fun parts of the game.
3) Do not play too much. I am dying to play every time I log in. :D
4) Get yourself hooked into a good RP situation. It is rare that I log on and DON'T have someone to RP with. I think you need to live in an RP city to get the most out of this. Having other roleplayes around is stimulating and forces you into character.

I dunno Ekade. I have taken several breaks from the game. I find that it helps. I play another game for a week or 4 and I come back tan rested and ready. Sometimes it really is best to just take a step back for a while.

Take a break from the game?

I dont know what you are talking about. I think I would wander aimlessly, without purpose, without direction.

Ekade can't take a break. Her master would be very displeased with her.

Yeah, and to think I was at one point only 60 posts behind you.
Ekade wrote:I figured something was up. I remeber when you were like this before.
Yeah, but I figure this is worse because last time, people were the direct cause of 80% of my frustration. Now, I'm just bored with the gaming system and everything that goes on. I don't even think about the game when I'm not playing.
Ekade wrote:1) F-BOMB maintaining harvesters. Once I dropped Tailor and Artisan, my gaming became less of a job. DO THAT. Seriously. You are a bonehead for not doing so already. :)
Whoa, Ekade dropped the F-Bomb AGAIN! I can't drop maintaining the harvs because I run a mining company. It's a large source of my income, and I only really bother with them once a week. The resource game is an easier money maker and I'm surprised people are just now catching on to that.
Ekade wrote:2) When you come back, focus on the fun parts of the game.
That's one of the problems, I'm running out of fun parts for the game. I've tried to "save" things in the game for a rainny day (ie. I never saw a Kryat dragon until April and I started the game at launch), but the fun parts are falling few and far between. Believe it or not, you can only RP so much.
Ekade wrote:3) Do not play too much. I am dying to play every time I log in. :D
You see, that may be my issue. I was playing quite a bit, but it was because there were many things I wanted to get done. The problem is the stuff I need to do is more like chores than fun gameplay and I've just gotten burned out.

Yes, but I've painted myself in a corner with my character. He is not nearly as free as a lot of the other roleplayers because of who he is, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm forced to do a lot of solo RPing (like defending the Emperor's Retreat much like I used to do with the Rori Outpost), but even that can get repetative.

Oh, I will. I can't stay away from this game because every now and then it really inspires me. I'll probably be back long before the revamp. Who knows, maybe I'll be back by the end of the week.

I made my millions selling resources early on, then became very low maintenance. The funny thing is that I still make some money just doing the things I enjoy (dancing and the occasional hunting). I have NO chores in game.. imagine that for a moment. :)

I went on a Kimo hunt with the Noct gang a few weeks ago... it was a blast. I had not been hunting in a few weeks. It was refeshing.

You are way off base here. :) If I am OOC for more than 5 minutes, I start feeling wierd.

Here is your problem.. you are a lone wolf. This game just is not fun for people with solitary tendencies. This is why you need to get in with a group of roleplayers.

This is RP.. you can do anything with your character that you want to. Painting yourself into a corner is a problem of your own making. I know what you mean, I have done the same with Ekade to a certain degree.

You play Tramel as an NPC, and you do a stellar job doing it. However, like you said, your potential for fun is limited. You may need to have something happen to Tramel, or play another character as your main to allow for group play.

No matter how you slice it, group play is what you need.

The other thing to do is GM. When I am bored at the Roba I start sending people tells, telling them what to do.

For Example: Last week there were some stormtroopers at the Roba. They were not really roleplayers, but I think they showed up to see what was going on. I told the lead one to "scan" Novall for contraband and start harassing him stormtrooper style. I gave them a few classic phrases to use. The imperials loved it. He was telling me that he told his buddies on voicechat and they were all loving it.

Sometimes teaching people how to ropleplay and enhancing their experience is just as much fun as something to do yourself.

Like I said before, SWG is a sandbox, not a game. You make your own fun. Don't expect the game to give you much.

Enjoy Baldur's Gate! I loved it... I loved Baldur's Gate 2 even more. :)

Then get you ass back and game and do exactly as I say. Trust me. :D

You'll be missed, but i feel you. I've been playing around with other games and getting on SWG every now and then to talk to some bums. I've also RPed Nyase into a corner, and my other char is no better off. That's why I just run around town harrasing everyone in guild OOC cause they don't RP anyway. heheheheh.

At anyrate, good luck in your gaming. Maybe I'll even get bored enough to decorate your office.
