Does anyone thnk we need this kind of help?

There is a woman I work with that is a grammer, spelling, and editing mad woman. She has zero tolerance for incorrect use of the English language AND she enjoys being a harsh critic. I was thinking about asking her to go over my stuff that is going to go on the swgtales site permanently, so that I don't look like a boob and use bad punctuation or poor word order. I could ask her to go through all the permanent fan fiction content before we add it (not just mine) so that we look a lot more professional. She's a SW fan, but not a SW geek like most of us are...so she has the benefit of being able to tell us when the average person has no idea what we're talking about. I also think that we might even be able to get her to play a bit if she were involved with the site.

If anyone thinks this would be a benefit, let me know and I'll ask her from all of us.

I have always been shy of criticism as a writer. Correcting gramatical errors and punctuation is one thing as long as the content or meaning is not evaluated.

She'll really only critique content if you ask her to. She may read something and say, "Hey what are you trying to say here, because it doesn't make sense." But she won't say, "This paragraph sucks, get rid of it." Her main focus would be to edit grammer, tense usage, spelling, word use, etc.

She read the first part of Zannon's background and gave it back to me with spelling and puctuation errors corrected, but didn't give me editing feedback until I asked her...and then she very constructive and to the point.

it sounds like everyone is pretty hip to this....so, I'm gonna talk to her a bit later and then have her sign up for the forum here. That way she can post how she wants stuff sent to her and where AND she can participate in whatever other areas she finds an interest in.

She and I have been friends for several years now (and 4 jobs), so I know her VERY well. I think she'll be a huge asset for making the main site great. Also, as an FYI, she was the one that pointed out to me that the word construction was spelled wrong on the home page yesterday...so she's already started

This is a great idea, especially if you are going to post a particular piece of fiction in a very public area.

Poor grammar and punctuation can turn some people off. If something is written "too poorly", it detracts from the creative effort you put put into it. Some grammar snobs will even stop reading if it is too bad.

Ok...Lisa here has agreed to help us look better when we write. I told her to register and to give an intro and guidelines as to how to get your stuff to her before it gets posted. Hopefully we can get a lot of content that looks really good quickly so we can open the site for business soon.

In reference to the nice lady who is going to critique the gramar and usage, she should be mindful of dialogue, and that some characters may have a unique way of speaking.
