IC Transmissions?

In the role-play section, how are the IC transmission posts generally viewed? Not the stories, but posts like Coiyonite's latest one--are they community-wide holonet postings, or...? I'm just curious as to how they're viewed in an IC sense and if, in an IC sense, Dwilah would be able to have access to that knowledge without somebody from Nocturnus being all "wtf Dwilah guess what!!!eleven", her being from Lost City.

She has a good point thought, what kind of RP visibility do posts there have? Seret and I have changed the forum name a couple times, that forum's real intention is as general in-character posting. Maybe we need to rethink it's name. At any rate, Coiyonite's letter is public for all to see and of course return fire on. :)

For now, some of the posts in the Roleplay forums will be hard to determine, which a character would know and which a character would not know. This is my "vision" of how those forums will work once the SWGTales site goes live:

Rumblings from Ruby's - this will be a place to post about current events. The source of these posts would be people who populate Nocturnus with some of the regulars from other cities/planets. This would not be for character histories. These should be considered rumors and conversations heard throught Lok's cantinas.

Imperial Holonet - Official Imperial communications and information from various Imperial leaders. In character, Imperials should react to these post as if they received them. For everyone else, they are just a window into what is happening. I see this as a way for everyone that is not Imperial to understand the backgrounds of events.

Rebel Communication - Same as Imperial but for rebels.

I am proposing a 4th in-character forum that would be for EVERYONE else on gorath to post in-character items in. This would be similar to Ruby's, but not restricted to events that effect Lok. For example, if someone is hatching an event that involves political intrigue in Skara Brae, it would be posted in here.

The actual www.SWGTales.com site would be a place for EVERYONE to post their character bios AND stories about those character's pasts. if you go to the site as is, you will see a character profile section. Go to Serets and check it out, stories about Seret would be links at the end of the bio, so that, as people develop their characters, they can add stories. I envision it to actually have two distinct profiles sections, one for Nocturnus (it's our site, what can I say) and one for the rest of Gorath's RPers. If someone runs into you in game, I'd like them to be able to come to www.swgtales.com to find out about you.

Also, I'd like to be able to move stories from the forums to a "tales" section on the site to highlight events and story arcs that we work on and pull off.

OK, I'm done for now.

Talk among yourselves.

I know some of this I'm letting slip out of one of our super secret forums...but, hey! I'm getting excited about this little endeavor!!!

It could easily be explained as a town Holonet, if you wanted to go that route. Where it's basically a short-range broadcast over the town, and there are listings of holos you can access, and then record and leave your own holos as replies. You know, those fun little fuzzy blue things. =D

I'm glad this was brought up. Feedback is really appreciated on this subject. When these forums get a revamp we'll have a whole RP section with a bit more. Lets start with the basics, what we need to have forums for...

General Roleplaying Talk - how to, ideas, techinics, event questions
Criminal/Neutral news
Imperial News
Rebel News
RP Tales - Character stories, Side Stories, etc.

Also how many would like to see features like this.

Special Register Imperial Only News
Special Register Underground Rebel News

These forums would be private and only available by a strict registering process to "attempt" to weed out spies.

So how would you all break those into forums? Would you give one each or combine some? Any feedback helps us greatly.

I don't think the forum boards themselves are confusing. I think that extra forum boards might be redundant--I was just wondering how the boards and the interaction themselves would be explained in-character and in-game. That's all. It just needs an in-character backup to explain how all of this interaction is going down and where it's taking place. I think, if you want to keep the 'interactable' stuff seperate from 'non-interactable' stuff, like stories, then make one seperate forum for that, but I think that you just need to decide on an IC basis for the one you have. =) 'Course...I'm not even a member of the city. =)

The public RP forums aren't just for Nocturnus, they're open for anyone on the Gorath server to post. That means you could use the Rumblings from Ruby's forum to post something about a lost event. Here's a few examples on how these forums could be used by anyone.

Rumblings from Ruby...
A man from Lost City stops into Ruby's for a drink and chats it up with Ruby the bartender. Lets face it, most people like to gab with a bartender. He starts to talk about how a girl from Lost broke his heart. As he drowns his sorrows in Corellian Ale he's explains that if only he could get her somethng special, something unique, she might pay attention to him. Maybe he could hire a hunting party to find him a rare "crystal" to give her. Then she might notice him.

Now maybe a few people from Lost read this post and want to help this poor soul out. IC in-game they organize a hunt to get a crystal for him.

Imperial Holonet...
(Trayuse used this one) The Empire is very concerned with the activity of Lord Nyax on Corellia. Imperial regiments are getting wiped out by his followers. If a group of Imperial Officers were to take out Lord Nyax they could win the Emperor's favor.

Now you have an excuse for character to take an ordinary trip to Lord Nyax's place and RP it as a mission for the Empire.

Any player can use any forum as they like, deciding beforehand which forum their RP adventure fits in.

Or you could just them for your stories, either about your character or any SWG story in general. Here's how that would work.

Zannon meets Seret in Ruby's and over a drink tells him the story about how he became a pirate.

Dwilah is caught by the Empire in suspision of supplying the Rebels with uniforms. She gives her Imperial testimony and lets the Inquistor decide her fate.

Ekade has lost a dear friend to the Imperials and writes a letter to the Rebel command on how great he was and why they should honor his memory. IC she urges other rebels to access the holonet and read the story of her friend.

Now when it comes being IC or in-game you would bascially be telling other players to check the Imperial Holonet for specific news or asking some of the regulars in Ruby's what kind of stories they've heard around the bar (by checking that forum).

It all comes down to creativity. If you have something to post, or want to figure out how to RP a character to read the forums, just get some suggestions from friends or post the prediciment here. After time we'll get used to the ability to connect the forum to the game with ease.

I hope this helps a little bit. :D
