I've tossed in my own thoughts for possible RP scenarios with some of these. Please, keep addin' on 'till the break o' dawn.
Note: Every SWG planet and many of the cities have something intriguing about them. This is not an "Encyclopedia Galactica" overview, but a few personally engaging facts that have stood out for me.
Corellia:
- Coronet - Why is the Diktat of Corellia's office in the back of the Coronet Cantina? Or any cantina for that matter? Sure the Devs probably wanted to make these new player quests easily accessible, but ditching that rather bland reason, maybe it's something in the "wild Corellian" cultural makeup that has Diktat Gallamby mixing business with pleasure Pres. Bill Clinton-style. Or maybe it's just Gallamby...or his assistant Brantlee Spoondon...
Why would a planetary leader have even an auxilliary office in a Cantina? What's really goin' on in the back office of the Coronet Cantina?
Dantooine: "In addition, Dantooine is the central base of operation for a small band of smugglers known as the Gray Talon."
/point up In almost 2 years and several readings of the guide, I don't ever remember reading this one.*shrug* Who are these Gray Talon, really? Personally, I've never seen any Gray Talon NPC's. Props to them for being low key.
Either way, there's some RP hors d'oeuvres.
Dathomir: Outside of the commonly known intrigue, which is very rich, I've got nothing to add other than witches being very sexy creatures...
Maybe some The Courtship of Princess Leia (the book in which this planet debuted) aficionados have some thoughts.
Endor: For some time, there'd been a sub-discussion on the SOE Smuggler Forums about the redundancy of Imperially factioned Smugglers. That is, why would an Imperial need to smuggle anything?
There's a few answers to that question, but one of them I'd thought of was based around Endor. Depending on what calendar you run the Star Wars saga by, the second Death Star *could* be being built right now in An Empire Divided's time. The level of secrecy could be so high that most of the Imperial armed forces and bureaucracy would be kept out of the loop. Real life analogies could be the Manhattan Project, Iran/Contra or other Above Top Secret government operation.
To maintain that level of secrecy the imperials high command might contract out to "trusted" individuals to carry sensitive cargos to Endor even past their own patrols. Sure, a "universal travel pass" could be granted, but even that may raise some eyebrows. A planetary shield generator here, parts for a mammoth tractor beam there and viola...the Imperial Smuggler is validated.
Lok: According to the guide, the Dread Pirate Nym was hustling on the Outer Rim since before little Anakin Skywalker could Force rock his own cradle. Apart from just wanting to mention that, Nym is one of my character's criminal inspirations.
Secret starport and stronghold at his disposal, Nym is and has been good for RP inclusion.
Naboo: "Unfortunately, after the Emperor rose to power, he made a special effort to quickly bring Naboo under his control."
Why Naboo? Maybe Palpatine had a soft spot in his "heart" for his old stomping ground? Maybe something else?
Rori: Two thousand years ago King Narmle, a restless explorer, colonized Rori. Eventually he grew frustrated with the colony's lack of growth and "vanished into the Outer Rim forever".
Maybe a descendant of King Narmle has become a point of contention between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire. The Empire sees the royal heir as a threat to their authority and wants him/her killed or co-opted as an ally to keep people in line. Mon Mothma of the Rebels could see the heir as a way to further motivate resistance to imperial rule or even full blown armed revolt.
*looks around for Colonels Haunter & Raggs*
Talus: "...the planet has a vibrant economy that revolves around starship manufacturing."
- Maybe some Shipwright-geared quests there?
- Maybe some corporate competition between "The Shipwright's Guild" and local Talusian Shipwrights a la' Naboo vs. The Trade Federation of Episode One.
- **Big Item** "It is rumored that a planetary repulsor is located beneath the world's surface. This device may have been used eons before the Battle of Yavin, presumably to move Talus from an unknown location into it's current orbit."
Hmm, planetary repulsor you say....?
- If this is true, then where did Talus originate? Why was it moved?
- Eons old technology that surpasses/meets anything in present technology? What other secrets might the repulsor "chamber" yield? (kinda like another Geonosian Lab except geared toward Shipwrighting rather than Armorsmiths, Weaponsmiths, <insert profession>.)
- Could some super villain get hold of the Planet Repulsor and blackmail Corellia for *pinky finger at mouth* 5 trillion credits?!!. Seriously, could be a cool story.
Tatooine:
- The Lucky Despot. Why did it crash? Was it just another common accident of space travel or was there something else behind it? Is there any connection between it and the other crashed converted casino hotel, The Distant Star in Mos Entha?
Ekade and me tossed some ideas around for this one awhile back. We came up with a super-intoxicating beverage that the original crew mixed up (lonely crazed drunken sailors  ). They maybe got so bored with their long space flight that they invented a little "pick me up". It got the better of them and they lost control of the ship, crashlanding on Tattooine.
This beverage could be a new drug or bioweapon contested in a multi-party struggle between Valarian, Jabba, Empire, Rebels,...(a newer improved Cries of Alderaan *shrug*. Something...).
Yavin 4 - This planet is pretty packed already with all the Jedi lore. The only thing I can think of is some kind of connection between the Geonosians and Yavin. I'm not really feeling any kind of spark from that one though.
