Good news for entertainers...
This is beyond cool! This gets the crafters into the cantinas - a different set of people to talk with! LOL. This gives us a reason to go back to being an entertainer. There is just so much "fun" to be had from watching someone shooting someone else while running through and shooting through everyone else in the room as if it were an empty arena.
It also gives entertainers a reason to be out in the Player City cantinas and away from the buffbots in Coronet and Theed. A big /hug for the Devs!

That is really really great news, especially since we were beginning to fear that entertainers were getting to be obselete. And it is obvious they are looking for some way to implement the WoW Rest system, and I personally think they've found a great way to do it.

I wonder how may devs the maker of WoW snuck into SOE.

I see the notes said only in Cantinas, but does anyone know if these, or the old mind buffs even, could be given in Camps?
That would be a great way to get some of the more adventurous Dancers and Musicians into the field.
Not to mention to again make relevant that once glorius social/combat hybrid craftable, the Camp.

According to the page it says that the same rules apply to the new buff system as they do for the current mind buff system.
You could mind buff in camps before, so I would say yes..

But the rest system in WoW, is such that time your logged out counts towards resting. I got a feeling that will not be the case here. If someone is giving and inspiration buff and the person watching/listening should crash or something, then what?Isleh wrote:LOL... WoW rest system... Maybe its just me but it seems that in the surrent system, mind buffs and secondary mind buffs are not half as in demand as current Doc buffs, because most people can compensate for the mind using foods, drinks and spice. Which makes me wonder something. Won't alot of foods become obsolete if the stats change?
Im glad they are doing this for us too but the notes still leave questions unanswered as yet.

I don't think the foods will be useless Weyune. They would be useless if and only if the devs don't change the effects. I can't imagine they plan on creating a whole new line of foods with new effects...they will just change the effects of the old ones to match the new system they have in place.
I think that the addition of the inspiration buff is a pretty great idea. I have not jumped on TC (and I probably won't), but from what I hear, its a real bitch to get xp. That 10% xp bonus might be huuuuuuuge in the long run, so I see a lot of people hittin' up those entertainers for buffage. Forces a bit of interaction between the ents and non-ents.
Be nice to your entertainers...since you don't have to be grouped to inspire buff, I imagine non tippers and assholes will be getting the old /deny service treatment...and it may actually mean something.

I think that it sounds great. As everyone else has mentioned the fact that it might get crafters into another aspect of the game is a nice bonus.

Weyune has a point, we don't have the full information on this system yet. If it is indeed a "buff" then it may have a time duration and the same limitations as a doc or current entertainer buff.
If it was like WoW's rest system it wouldn't just be a matter of how long you're logged out but where you logged out. They could make the inspiration buffs stay constant until you leave the cantina and no begin ticking down until you leave the "resting area."
But the more I think about it the more it isn't like the WoW system. The rest system in Warcraft is designed so players that don't get to log on as often can still keep up with the hardcore players playing all the time. Since these buffs are given by Entertainers and they have equal effects on all players it really only serves the purpose of supplimenting the defunct Entertainer buffs post CU.
All in all this is still a good thing any way you cut. It gives the entertainers purpose and use expanding beyond combat and into crafting. At least they took the time to notice the Entertainers and their loss after the CU.

Since it is totally passive, I see buff bots unless unattended play goes away.
I really hate to be doom and gloom, it's really great, entertainers have appeal to everyone now but PAs will just give novice entertainer to someone's second account.
I've seen the arguments for the mind/focus/willpower buff bots. "I play at odd hours", "I can never find an entertainer", "Entertainer buffs are absolutly necessarey for PvP"... It will be the same. "I HAVE to have a entertainer buff, it IMPOSSIBLE to get good experience without one"...

I agree.. in the original concept, entertainers had a place in the "party of adventurers". They could heal the mind in camps. The way things played out and the mission system.. people were never very far from cities. They would go out to run a few missions and come back. The need to have an entertainer in your group never really existed. I think they had it planned out that you would need one, but it just never came to pass.Keer wrote:I see the notes said only in Cantinas, but does anyone know if these, or the old mind buffs even, could be given in Camps?

This change still does not make it so that you would seek out an entertainer to be in your adventuring group. I really like the idea of having a motivation to make camp while adventuring. Healing up and taking some time to recover between fights, and talking about the recent battles.. that would be so cool.
Even so, it is good that they gave us a slight nod. I would not call this much more than a slight nod because, as isleh said.. this buff can be applied afk, even easier than it used to be as it requires no interaction.
I posted a suggestion on the dancer forums a while ago (that was obviously ignored) in that the dancer should have an interface similar to the Jtl group ship boarding screen where they can select who gets the entertainer buff. This would solve the AFK entertainer buff problem in that you have to active select those who get buffed.
The entertainer income has been crap since the AFK bots came along. I got tipped sooo much more back in the early days when 50K was considered "rich". Now in the era where 10 million is considered below-average wealth, I don't get tipped at all because my service is not in demand. People can just go watch an AFK bot.
SOE won't fix that problem because it benefits them to have someone pat for an extra account to serve as a buff-bot. So yeah, Isleh's "doom and gloom" is justified.
They threw us a bone, which is good. I would like to see it non-AFK, the ability to apply the bonus to ones self, and perhaps a reasion to have an entertainer in your group. What would be awesome would be a high-bonus, short duration buff. This would make you WANT an entertainer in your group so they could apply it when you camp.
