ok, I didn't read all of this because of 2 things:

And many of you have not experienced this but as I rode across the snow covered fields in my HMMWV one day I looked int the woodline and swore I saw imperial troopers, in full Hoth style armor, moving to contact with my convoy. They even had AT-ST support. And yes I mean AT-ST, there certainly wasn't the proper amount of maneuver room for an AT-AT in the woods of PA. I mean really...

Without geting to technical it's a electromagnetic containment feild that stops the beam.

I will assume you are talking about a "Plasma saber" and not a "light saber".

So how do they pump the hundreds of liter's of gas through a lightsaber hilt to generate enough sustained plasma?

Ok gents, if you HAVE to know the technical answer...

From the Star Wars Encylopedia....
"A saber with a single jewel has a fixed amplitude and blade length. Those with multiple jewels can alter their amplitude and change the light blade's length by rotating an exterior control to vary the distance between jewels. The emitted beam arcs back from its positively charged continous energy lens to a negatively charged high-energy flux aperature set in the disk atop the handle. The power amplitude determines the point at which the beam arcs back, setting the blade's length."

Personally I'd rather pretend its a mystery and geek on on that techno-babble. Sorry, no electromagentic fields to be found folks.
