They could get rid of BF, and the need to entertainers goes away. They could make it so thay you could never lose a weapon and the need for crafters diminishes.. and eventually the need for them goes away too if you provide the best weapons via the loot system.Illbleed wrote:As much as I enjoyed playing an entertainer(on one of my alts), I don't believe that the "Entertainer" professions are viable any longer. There is no system I can see devised that would allow for the requisite immersion that the community is requesting.
Granted, I've been out of the game for a bit but I have been reading the forums regularly. I think SOE needs to admit defeat on this profession and give up the profession. Since entertainers can only "entertain" unless they have a combat profession, those who want to devout their energies to strictly "entertaining" will forever but stuck in the cantina's. It's not fair..
Let me also say a couple of things:
1. Maintenance on houses, structures and harvesters should go away. I personally did not enjoy having to run and check on these resources all the time.
2. 100 % armor/weapon repairs. No more critical failures and equipment being destroyed. Make most of the weapons in the game craftable by players. Quest items/weapons decay and can be repaired but are subject to critical failures/destruction.
While this makes the game more fun for the combat player, since they dont need to deal with these annoyances known as entertainers and crafters anymore, it KILLS the game for entertainers and crafters.
Entertaining and Crafting are two of the things that make SWG special if you ask me. I'd like to see them keep those around. What really needs to happen is that they should make the lives of Crafters easier. It is waaaay to painful to be a top-notch crafter in this game. It boggles the mind. I am not suprised at all that the top-crafters end up burning out.
It's a tough thing to balance. I am a casual player and my time is limited. If I was combat focused.. I would not want to have to spend hours shopping for my arsenal, or trying to track down some entertainer to heal battle fatigue. I'd want to be killing.
On the flipside.. give us entertainers and crafters a reason to feel valuable. Entertainers need more than BF healing and 10% inspiration buffs. Give us some some other useful buffs to bestow. Make some of these buffs shorter in duration so that a group may have an incentive to bring an entertainer with it.
I don't want SWG to become Galaxy of Warcraft. They are focusing on the combat.. which is good for the game. However, some professions are just not getting the love. By the time they do.. will it be too late?
