Firefly - Serenity

This is one of those shows that totally blew by me when it was on TV. Heard nothing but good things about it though. Movie treatment is coming in September so I'll have a bit of time to track down some DVD's to catch up on the story.

The trailer looks decent. And it can't be that bad if Animal Mother from Full Metal Jacket (Adam "Poontang" Baldwin) is in it...

I'm stoked. I watched the entire series twice over and I can't wait to see how it translates to the big screen. The only thing I worry about is will it have the same appeal to those who have never seen the show. If not it could go down in flames and thats a damn shame.

I have to admit that when I saw this preview before Batman Begins, I had never heard of it...but I be damned if I didn't want to see it really bad after the preview. It reminds me of Ice Pirates with a budget for some reason.

I have to catch up on the DVD series as well. I like all things Joss Whedon and I'm sure this won't be an exception. I hear he's on tap to script Wonder Woman which I guess makes sense with his experience on Buffy.

I had a Tivo season pass to this show when it was on and it was teh b0mb. My wife even liked it. Sci Fi has picked up the rights to air the series again, they don't have right to new episodes at this time. It has been speculated that if the episodes they air again have high enough ratings, they might buy out Fox's contract and make their own new episodes.

Yeah I watched all the aired episode on Fox and was so disappointed when they pulled it. If yer a western or sci-fi fan either is good enough reason to give it a try. I bought the dvd set which includes the unaired 3 episodes and lets ya watch the show in order seeing as how Fox decided to run the pilot as I think episode 4 or 5 because they thought it was too slow.

A couple of other things, I watched a very good movie the other night called Dirty Pretty Things and liked the male lead and was curious to see what else he has done and it turns out he is the main baddie in Serenity.
Also its been announced that Sci-Fi has picked up Firefly to air in the fall but the announcement was unclear as to whether or not new episodes would go into production. I suspect that will be determined by how well the movie does. Captain Malcolm Reynolds is an awesome character and is definately cut from the Han Solo mold.

Another Firefly related note for those comic book fans here. Morena Baccarin, who plays Inara Serra, is now a possibility for the Wonder Woman lead. Joss Whedon is directing it and she said in an interview that she talked to him about it but was not offered anything at this point. She definately has the right look I think complexion/hair wise and is 5'9" so is in the right range physically. I was a devoted fan of Firefly (for all 9 episodes or whatever it was!) - I honestly have not watched Fox channel since they so unceremoniously dumped the show without giving it a chance. (And what a sacrifice that has been )

I saw the trailer with Batman Begins and I am very excited about it. I really hope it does well (if for no other reason than to thumb its nose at Fox :P )
