YOU'RE the reason the recruiting is down...not the fact that army guys die there everyday, in a place where we're not wanted, or that deployments are being extended ..you damn critics, it's all you're fault...quit being so, ummmm, critical...
it's not the fact we don't have any strategy to leave, and that our leaders have said it will take at least a decade to get out of iraq...it's you mean people that say mean things...
Army recruits shortfall blamed on Iraq war critics

You gosh darn war critics
Maybe this should go in the WTF thread.

Re: Not being wanted: Hrm. I'd say that we're wanted there. The insurgents are mostly Syrians and Iranians. Iraqis tend to like us.Skorixor wrote:it's not the fact we don't have any strategy to leave, and that our leaders have said it will take at least a decade to get out of iraq...it's you mean people that say mean things...
Anyone thinking it would take less than 3 generations (60 years) for us to leave Iraq is kidding themselves.
We still have bases in Germany and Japan. It's 60 years after the fact.
You don't just fly in, mess someone's shit up, and leave. There's a reason there's no strategy to leave. It's because we're not leaving. It's intentional.
Annnnnd this thread will be locked down in 5...4...3...2...

Ah, I see what was behind the article. They were attempting to address how there's a bit of a media white-washing of facts, and an attempt to paint the most dire picture possible in Iraq.
Considering that those of the left persuasion and the media have been saying that we would take heavy losses in the invasion, then we couldn't stabilize the country, then they wouldn't be able to form their own government, then the Iraqis wouldn't vote, then they wouldn't be a sovergn nation, then they wouldn't police themselves, etc. ad infinitum. Wrong at every turn.
If you listen to guys on the ground there (and I mean the carreer guys, not the scared kids who signed up for a free college scholarship and are surprised that in the Army sometimes you get sent to war), you get a different picture than what the media's portraying, and more importantly, different than what US Dem Senators have been saying. I'll grant that a "good war" (ha!) plays right into the Repub's hands, but the Dems are desperately trying to do whatever it takes to get elected in '08, and hamstringing our national security to do it is a pretty shitty way to go about it.
Yes, our guys are in the field too long on their tours. But you know what would cure that? More recruits. For US Senators to try and exploit the former, they guarantee the latter, and only cause our guys to stay in the field longer. It makes one wonder who's side they're really on here...

As a previous journalist, I'll say just one thing about the media white-washing/supposed media liberal bias:
Remember, kiddies, the media's just as liberal as the big, honking, conservative corporations who own them.
