I doubt we will ever see an end of the human race's drive toward the stars save our own extinction. Risk has always been part of the human adventure. To qoute a little on J.F.K. (and do excuse me if I mess this one up a little bit), "When asked, George Mallory (sp?), who was to die climbing Mt. Everest (right mountain?), why do you want to do this? He replied 'because it is there'. Well, space is there and we're going to climb it! And hope and dreams are there! That's why we ask God's blessing; As we embark on mankind's greatest adventure..." Again, sorry if I botched up some of that qoute. My basic point is; This isn't something I think we'll ever give up on. It's just not on a feasible level for us to fully commit a government's full resources into with how unstable our world gorvernments get along.
Isn't this very thing that makes things like Star Wars so appealing to us? Because we yearn to believe there is something more than our own little... *grins*... slimy mudhole in the universe.
