I agree, the supple wrist comment is better, so I will comment here.
They're full of shiza if they think this blind kid is any good at a fighting game. I'd like to see him play someone other than a friend or a relative. Audio calls of nothing, you can't stop someone who competes in fighting games blindfolded.
This kid is button-mashing and winning. Granted, he can get some of the "block" timing down by blocking when he hears an attack audio call, but he wouldn't know to block high or low. Anyone who's played a fighter competitively could take him down in a heartbeat.
Not trying to brag and say I could kick a blind kid's ass; just pointing out that this was nothing more than a fluff piece that has been elevated to rediculous levels.

Hence my disbelief (which was stated in the OTHER more appropriately named thread bearing this article)...
The quote of the guy saying "How do I move" and the blind kid replying "You can't" is very telling.
The only reasons you wouldn't be able to move are:
(a) controller is unplugged
(b) you are frozen in place due to the relentless onslaught of your opponent's button mash play style.
B seems like the only realistic option.

Well, I gathered from that horribly written and ill-informed article that they were playing Soul Calibur and Mortal Kombat.
Chances are at that point he was playing as Sub Zero and had frozen the other player. The fact that the other player wasn't aware of this feature of Sub Zero, which has only been there since the game's inception in 1991, fourteen years ago, leads me to believe that he was playing someone who has never played a fighting game, ever.
So yeah, he can beat my Mom.

How we take all things differently...isn't language great. I took the "You can't," comment to be a really lame, cheesy Keanu Reeves action movie type of comment that the exhilarated blind kid made as the reporter stroked his ego.

(Quick note: Despite the tone which follows, I'm not cheesed by your previous statement).Dwilah wrote:How we take all things differently...isn't language great. Well, it's hard for me to take anything away from this piece language-wise, as the reporter has NO CLUE what they're talking about. This is obviously the "feel good fluff" reporter, and not the video-game reporter. For instance, he/she states that: "One by one, while playing "Soul Caliber 2," their video characters were decapitated, eviscerated and gutted without mercy by Mellen's on-screen alter ego."
I can roll on "eviscerated and gutted," as they can be euphamisms for "stabbed in the gut" or "cut to ribbons," but "decapitated" in any dictionary means "to have one's head cut off," which is something you can't do in Soul Calibur 2. Earlier they mention Mortal Kombat (which has decapitations and other type moves), so it's entirely possible that this reporter lacks the ability to tell the two games apart when they're being played. Again, doesn't really lend credibility to the reporter. Or the piece.
Furthermore, it's spelled Soul Calibur. They couldn't even be bothered to spell the game correctly.
So, in a nutshell, my response to this entire article is: UGH.

Well...I dunno why you would be cheesed at all by my post. I was just commenting on how it's interesting that everyone takes things differently despite common language. But yeah...overall ugh. Though I daresay my mom would cut it out of the newspaper and say, look, it's so inspirational and it's about something you like!!

I'm just trying to make sure nobody thinks I'm stepping on toes when I'm intentionally avoiding it. I've had a lot of thin-skinned people take things the wrong way at work lately (and no, not saying you're thin-skinned).Dwilah wrote:Well...I dunno why you would be cheesed at all by my post. And yeah, I'll expect my copy of that article in the mail any day. Probably from my Grandparents, who still have no concept of this thing known as the internets.

I was sitting eating my Fruit Loops and listening to my Mom talk about her morning when I glanced over at the paper, which was folded neatly to an article about....guess what?
I started laughing, and Mom was like, what? I gestured to the article and asked if she'd left that out for me. She said yes suspiciously, and I kinda laughed some more. Not like maniacal laughter mind you, I was eating Fruit Loops and they might have spilled, just some teehees.
However, Mom got mad. "Why would you laugh at someone that's blind with ambition?!" she demanded. I tried to explain but the conversation sort of quickly dissolved and ended with me making a dumb face and going, "Haha, a blind person!" in a mocking manner.
And now I have to go do some chores. Please excuse me.
