SPLIT: SCI-FI/Horror Weapons Discussion

LOL! When you write in small letters it makes me feel mean.
Maybe I need to watch it again.. my opinions on the movie are at least a decade old.

I was very excited to see Willow before it came out. I thought it would be soooo cool. While watching, I kept waiting for the movie to get good.

I guess I don't like movies where the heroes sort of bumble along and defeat the much cooler bad-guys through little more than blind luck. Good is supposed to win.. but I don't want it to win by default. I want it to show some level of competence along the way.

Terrified little people are not very inspiring.

That's what we all become when faced with something very large and unimagineably scary. Anyone's ability to make it through, even by sheer dumb luck, should be a testament to the bravery and heroes in us all.

Yeah, except that when we become the "little terrified illusionist" we don't get some kind of kick ass magical wand and Mad Martigan backing our tiny asses up.

How brave does one have to be to point a very powerful magic wand and saying "blamo", regardless of how tall (or not tall) you are?

Plus, did I mention Mad Martigan? And the little fairy fellows who stole the baby from him while he was taking a pee pee?

Regardless, you shouldn't hate on Willow. Why? Because you would be making fun of an Ewok. And that's just not cool.

True. I just like stories where heroes have more ability.. and less dumb-luck.

Mowgli versus Shere Khan: Shere Khan has just pwned Baloo and the Bagheera. He is getting ready to eat the man-cub. Out of nowhere lightning strikes a tree.. thus giving Mowgli a flaming branch with which to defeat Shere Khan.

What?

Seven Dwarves versus Wicked Stepmother the Queen, formerly the fairest in the land: Innocent princess, currently fairest in the land, in hiding eats poision apple. Dwarves chase Queen who is disguised as old woman. Queen tries to roll boulder down on dwarves.. lightning strikes cliff, causing queen to plummet to her doom.

Lightning for teh win.. AGAIN!?

My problem is that I like the bad guys waaaay too much. I get pissed when they get screwed.

Now, the Emperor's demise.. I am okay with that. That was well done. It would be really lame if an ewok swung on a vine, ricocheted off a falling meteor, was propelled into space, through the window of the death star, and impaled the emperor with his little spear.

Loved Willow, still do. Don't forget the verstile nature of its leading actor who was the Ewok Wicket, the Leprechaun, and the MC of a night club in Ray!

Though if you love Willow like I do don't be folled into reading the Shadow Moon novels as I was. It was thrilling to see stories of the characters again by George Lucas and Chris Claremont but if you can actually get through them you're a better person than I. In my book Claremont has gone downhill since his old X-men days and is far too descriptive and boring in his writing.

And yes Jabe, the Willow game was EVIL. I think my brother still has nightmares.

And just for Jabe, another cool sci-fi weapon in my book...

I think the "Shwartz" ring from Space Balls is probably my favorite sci-fi weapon.

Even if it was found in a cracker-jack box.

I liked those novels, Seret. I think I probably remember them better than the movie. (Oops.)

Can't forget someone you've never seen. =)

Sorry I haven't seen every Sci-Fi movie in existence.
That's not sci-fi...that's horror, pure and simple...granted, it's silly horror, but its still horror.
Age him a bit and he'd look just like Colonel Sanders...with a shotgun. Chickens beware!!
