I have a hard time getting it up

Post Reply
Try as I might, I am just not having any luck.

Obviously, I am talking about my level of excitement for SWG. I loved the game when it came out, and I played it damn near religiously for almost a year. Then when we had our last double xp run, I completely cashed out. It's still a great game, it's just like I feel as if I have run out of stuff to do.

I would like to do more of the organized rp events, but my schedule isn't very conducive to most of the evening times. Does anyone else have a problem like this? Is there medication I can take or something?

I've actually found myself in this spot several times in the past. Now unfortunately I'm in the opposite place. I still haven't explored Kash and I just don't have the time to do everything there is or that I want to do.

But to resolve your problem I've found the only cure to be RP. When I'm feeling I've "beaten" the game or when I log in SWG only to end up logging out 2 minutes later I've found the best way to deal with it is VIA RP.

Typically a player has caused the change for me, either inspired me to continue or given my character a new purpose. Zannon was instrumental in this and then Novall as well.

As a part of MidCo. I'd look to just maybe get back into things by finding a role you could fill there and then working on your character and focusing on RP situations or a story for your character.

If you don't look to RP then SWG will of course end up like all games and will become boring because for our purposes you would have beaten it. And by beat I mean completed the IG content. So the only way to keep it fresh is to keep it moving and keep your character moving.

Well that's my two cents anyway. Hope it helps.

Boring, like tic-tac-toe.. as described in the Theory of Fun. :D

My enthusiasm level dips from time to time as well. I struggle with the lack of content, lack of balance, and the how they treat my favorite profession.

I sometimes find myself asking "Do the devs play this game? Do they even want me to have fun?"

I know exactly what you mean. The game makes no attempt to make the grind enjoyable. It is not challenging, it is not fun, and it is little more than an exercise in patience.

Take a break.. recharge. I have to do that every so often. I should probably do it more than I do. Find your enthusiasm. What is it that you enjoy doing?

Attach yourself to enthusiastic people. They tend to give you that extra lift. If you are like me, you need goals to enjoy yourself. If you are not going somewhere, you are going nowhere.

Sometimes you need to try somethig new. Don't keep doing what is boring. Walk a different path if the old one is tired.

Look around at the opportunities that exist. You should be able to start some sort of arc with every RP guild/group/person out there. Think about the entities that exist and the possible interactions that could take place from a relationship with them. You have MERCS, TTF, MidCO, Temple, etc.. Each of those groups has a theme and purpose. How could your character benefit from interacting with these? If you are not sure, RP with some of their members and find out. :D

We exist to entertain eachother, I can't stress that enough. Entertaining you *is* my job as a roleplayer. In an MMO it is our job to provide fun to everyone we interact with, whether it be through RP, PvP, or PvE.

--Don't force yourself to play.
--Try to organize a time with other friends so you can all be on and experience the game together doing something fun, even if it's just hunting. Many games are about who you play with.
--Try playing a different role in the community. (Instead of participant, create something for other people to participate in.)
--Try something different. You may like it more, or you may miss SWG and appreciate it, go back to it. Either way you win.

How far are you along in Piloting? It may not be your particular tonic, but what I found going through the Pilot profession surprised me in a positive way. As late as this past spring there was this almost separate community of players that existed in space. That's all they wanted to do.

I wanted to finish up my piloting which was half way up the tree and after some looking, I found that there was a strong community of people that were eager to help other pilots with tough missions including and beyond the Corvettes for master. I don't know how it is now, but as recent as April, there were people just prowling the spacelanes looking for any call that came their way.

I usually launched, jump to a somewhat difficult area and tabbed through player ships until I saw someone that looked to be close to my level. Sent a tell, I usually got a group going. The weird thing was that most people will want to group up but don't make that first step. They instead wait for someone else to or just go it alone without trying.

So try "Space Viagra" to get it up! For ejection sequences that last longer than a few seconds, see your Shipwright.

I have been on a semi-break now for the last 2-3 weeks. However as the leader of a sizeable guild with a town...it means I cant really take the kind of break I need to and still have the guild functioning.

Hopefully a semi-break is enough :)

I know how you feel. I basicly only log on my jedi to pvp now and sometimes to go to events and such. Luckily we get an alt so im making a bounty hunter so i can get tapes and such for my jedi. Setting goals for your toon is a good way to keep you interested. Like get this suit of armor , build the perfect this gun , get these skill tapes , etc. Basicly set long term improvement goals for your toon and there will always be something to work torwards aka you always have something to do.

The game is lacking in many area's. The GCW is a joke to me since there is no actuall chain of command that can hand down millitary goals to its members. One who joins a faction has no sence of being part of a vast millitary power. Ghost towns abound. Our ability to run an event is hindered even though we've found very creative was around it. And the events created by SOE are jokes since every one and their cousin can do the exact same thing. The really is no sence of having a character that is unique beyond what we create for it.

That being said I completly agree that it is hard to keep enthusiastic about SWG but, this community keeps it going for me. I have some friends here that, once I get back in the game, would keep me wanting to log on even though I get very little RP since I'm never on when the RP we promote takes place. In other words the one thing that makes it worth wild is the people I know here. With out them I would have moved on long ago, with them I have reason to look forward to logging on again.

Kinda sad in a sence when you think about it. Nothing that SOE or Lucas Arts has done has given me reason to play this. Heck this could be The Smurfs MMO and I would log on to hang with my friends from here. Way to go SOE!

Look, I am not starting a gripe column. I like the game and given the opportunity, I probably wouldn't change that much. It isn't a matter of me being dissatisfied with the game.

I like Jello a ton. But if I eat too much jello, even the kind with coolwhip and strawberries all blended up into it, I get a little tired of it.

SWG is my pink jello. I think I just might have had a little too much at once.

Sounds like your really talking about burn-out, Krusshyk? Me, heh, I'm still left with loads of time to play... but, unlike the power grind friends, I haven't done every quest in game and don't do as much grinding as one might suspect.

I basically keep my enthusiasim about the game up by energizing myself with the company of my friends here. For me, It's Temple. Anytime I can look forward to logging on and doing something with Dasumi, Isleh, Ekade, Weyune, Yala, E-bo... anyone; it keeps me interested in what we're doing even if I'm not earning xp for the fs grind; getting some uber weapon; Or completing some quest.

Usually when I go to an event though; that differs for me. I guess I have a double standard. When I'm with Temple it's about the company; when I adventure with the community here I like to have some since of accomplishment at the end of an event for some reason.

RP/Balancing game time/ finding a reason to do things... burn out can be killer; that's usually when I suggest a break. ::chuckles:: I have yet to take one though.
