Novall's Letter to the SWGTales.com readers/posters.

Actually, the functionality isn't there. Not quite.

You can't move a specific post within a given thread into another already established thread. The best you can do is move a problem post from one thread and start a whole new thread.

Our admins are working on a way to move posts from one thread into another as we speak. But no promises.

Yeah just to clarify...plenty of examples of good threads that get hijacked..but the point of the post hasn't been addressed. Locking the thread just kinda gives the power to the flamers in a way is my point.

How can you continue a discussion?

Thanks,

I had a legitimate post with valid concerns which was locked because members of the mod team started spamming it and having a field day. So when the post was locked I posted a follow up basically calling them out on it because I didn't think it was right that a legit thread was locked because they couldn't behave. And while responses varied, the overall impression was the "because I can" feeling Yala mentioned.

I'm not posting that to rehash the past, but since E brought it up it does have a certain relevance.
Okay. Sorry I am on vacation and just checking in. I don't want to rain on your parade because yes, yours was one that this happened in, but it was not the only one where something got locked and someone decided to post about the lock by starting another thread. I really wasn't calling anyone out. I was just stating some real issues that have happened in the past.

Might I make a very simple suggestion...

If a thread gets locked... do one of the following:

A) Ask a Mod via PM before doing anything else.

B) If you do take your legit discussion into a new post do not call anyone out in it. That'd solve a lot of problems right there. At least, I think it would.

Just a theoretical...would pulling trouble-posts and putting them in a hidden forum in their own threads be a bad thing? I think it'd help with indexing and make things easier to catalogue and find.

From what I've seen, this is feasible under the current system. I just don't know if it's as effective as the staff wants it to be.

Just a few observations:

1. the we and they thing probably came about when one group...the community...started lumping the other group...the moderators... into one "you". The moderators then started thinking of themselves as "us".

2. the recent spate of moderators, and community, dipping into the humor zone for no apparent reason is probably a subconscious solution to some hard to define problem. Perhaps the hard to define problem is uncertainty about the future? Or perhaps working on this forum is becoming a job that interferes with playing in the game? Or perhaps it is because they have been FORCED to do some things that NONE of them like to have done.

3. the community at large has to shoulder a bit more of the responsibility that the community at large has been requesting "The Team" to accept.

4. "the Team" is made up of veterans. Those of us who joined later tend to look to "the Team", as well as those who have a gazillion posts, as community leaders. Community leaders tend to be those with the most experience in that community. It is instinctive in us humans to assume that the veterans are community leaders.
