Looks like it to me with their latest publish, they are trying to get everyone to leave. http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/boar ... ing&page=1
What do you all think?
Is SOE trying to make everyone leave?
It doesn't matter. They're doing a good job of it either way.

Look at the bright side.. we got to witness one of the most spectacular failures in MMO history.
For those of you who have played MMO's longer than I have, how would you rank the top spectacular failures?

Biggest Spectacular Failure to date probably goes in this order:
1: Shadowbane
2: Horizons
3: Earth and Beyond
4: Matrix Online?
5: To be determined.

But galaxies had a succesful game that they then screwed. Those games basicly sucked from the get go. The fact that i can go from a game that i cant play 8 hours at a time to being bored in 30 minutes is ridiculous

Nope, they aren't. The new game just doesn't appeal to the original subscribers. Unfortunately most people aren't getting a chance to see the finished NGE because the new style doesn't appeal to them and their too impatient to wait for fixes.
I look for the subscription rates to stay about the same. Some small fixes and this will be a polished game. Just one that most of you don't want to play now.

SOE won't be getting another penny from me until they can make a game that I can play longer than one hour without it crashing, and one that doesn't have as many bugs in it as my local garbage disposal plant. In the mean time, I'll be on the Freedom server of City of Villains as...Revis.

Judging by nearly everyone I know and have spoke with, they are doing an excellent job at driving the current customer base away. I could name dozens of people leaving and only a handful that are staying (nearly all seem to be in this community).
Now I have no idea what the future holds for this new SWG or how it will pan out. However, judging by the response and the people I know to have officially cancelled (not the "I'm going to quit" but continue to stay after the CU) I can not realistically see this game lasting.
It is now over 2 years old. Completely new game system or not, the rest of the world that doesn't currently play sees it as 2 years old. The places even willing to give it a review are being bogged down by the huge negative response from the customers they are driving away. To pull back in the numbers I assume they are counting on to continue, it would take a marketing miracle. This is not to say it can't or won't happen, but it is just extremely unlikely. They have so many factors against them and only a few for them.
It could very well succeed, but I will be expecting an announcement that the servers are coming down for good sometime in mid-2006. That's my guess.

Is there that rummor still going around about LA pulling the Licence from SOE? The idea that the game will become a competitor would have been good motivation for SOE to screw the game over. Drive the player base away creating a negative opinion by those not playing and you kill the market demand for the game.

From reliable sources (Griggs as well as the Dev that plays on Gorath), it was Lucasarts that pushed this change on SOE, not the other way around. The game was in development as SWG2 and Julio (a LA employee, not SOE) decided to just push it to live as subscriptions were dwindling.Jerrel wrote:Is there that rummor still going around about LA pulling the Licence from SOE? Hence why things like a Ranger revamp were announced. SOE planned to continue making progress in the current game, LA cut that out from under them.
