It's possible that your processor's cooling fan/heatsink assembly is malfunctioning. Many boards have smart functionality that shuts down the system in case of overheating. It's mainly in place to detect heat changes from overclocking.

How big is the power supply in the unit? If the power supply is taxed and the system is getting barely enough power to peripherals it can cause system instability.

I would check the following in this order:

1. All cables. This should always be the first thing checked. Make sure they are all properly seated/connected. Check for frays or bad connections.

2. Visual inspection of processor/heatsink assembly. Is the fan over the processor turning? Is there a burning smell?

3. Test the power supply. Purchase a testing unit and check connectivity of the power supply pigtails. If any of them are not reading the proper voltage it may be advisable to purchase a new power supply.

same happened to me... when I pulled the heatsink off my CPU I found that it was charred... this was a week after SWG release, and the reason I stopped playing in the beginning.

It's doubtful that the game itself is causing the malfunction. It's possible, but unlikely. More than likely the problem can be attributed to the same problems as Cyril's.

I havent had any problems with the game, at least problems like this beforehand, So i think its less hardware related, and more related to a virus/spyware problem on my PC. I used Spysweeper last time and it worked incredibly well, but alas my free trial has run out, and due to the certain time of year it is, i cant afford to purchase the full version

Dude... You paid for antispyware? I'm sorry.

Alright, here's a few more things. Get some free antispyware. Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot Search & Destroy. Run them. Get your antivirus up to date and run that. If your subscription is gone (if you're using a premium), screw it. Download Avast! Home Edition for free (www.avast.com). Run it.

Hardware: Make sure that the processor fan is turning. If not, replace it. If so, go out and buy some cooling epoxy from a computer store. This goes between the heatsink and the actual processor, helping transfer heat from the CPU. I forgot to put some on mine a long time ago, and Doom 3 would shut down my computer. After I put it on, I could play just fine.

Hope that helps.

get motherboard monitor or something, check your temps, and make sure your CPU is running ok.

I'm sure avast is a good program but I started using AVG from http://www.grisoft.com/. I like it so far. Its free and doesn't seem to be overly obtrusive.
