It's interesting seeing these things from this perspective. I find myself picking out buildings I've been in.
I guess these pics also make it easier for me to understand why the military just can't shoot down any plane that strays too close. Intellectually, I knew the reason why. It becomes indisputable when faced with pictures where you can look out your right and left window and count the windows in the commuter vans entering and exiting the restricted areas.
On a bright, clear sunny day with no weather or mechanical problems.
My first trip to DC
I have to agree with Zannon here. I've been to D.C. numerous times and the first time it was pretty wierd coming form a state like Vermont where you rarely see that kind of thing to seeing it everywhere.Zannon wrote:DC is pretty cool to sightsee in...as soon as you get numb to the 50 million bums all wandering around asking for money...it's kinda like a living dead movie, but they moan "War Vet" instead of "Brains".
It is a nice place to visit though, I love the museum's they have there. And the "Wall" is just incredible, all those names. We took a field trip there in 8th grade and our teacher was a Vet. he cried when he saw the names of his buddies and then the power of the place really sank in.
Unfortunately I have a fear of looking up at tall buildings, or in rooms with a high ceiling, not sure why, but this prevented me from enjoying the Washington Monument or the Capital building.

It has been too long since I took the tour of the Capital building so this will be lacking in it's telling but... But when has missing some details ever stopped me?Hashum wrote:Unfortunately I have a fear of looking up at tall buildings, or in rooms with a high ceiling, not sure why, but this prevented me from enjoying the Washington Monument or the Capital building.

One of the Circular Chambers in the Capital building was used as an office. The who and why eludes me now. The President (I think) would often lay his head on the desk and sleep. Often his rivals would stand before him and whisper to each other and, thinking he was asleep, often their conversation turned to their plans.
A lazy President or so it would seem.
The chamber was not a true circle but an elipse and with such acustic properties that whispers at one apex would be heard at another. That president had placed his desk exactly on one apex. The guide gathered us around where the desk had been placed and walked over to where the others would stand and softly whispered with his face turned to the floor.
It sounded like he had his head hovering over my shoulder and was whispering into my ear.
He was faking being asleep

Li'ith says it was called The Ground Zero Cafe because the Pentagon would have been Priority One in the event of a nuke attack. Said there were a number of jokes about which side would benefit more from the destruction of the building and all it contained.
