Stuck

Seems I'm having some comp troubles of my own all of a sudden.

My main computer boots windows but then just seems to stop after it loads my profile's background. I can't see anything in the processes that it might be hung up on. I even gave it more than an hour to see if it was just booting insanely slow. So far no luck for me.

If anyone has any ideas I'd sure appreciate it.

Hopefully my bestest buddy in the whole wide word, Jabe, will swoop in to Seretville and save the day. If so drinks on me!

I had that problem when I got a virus that attacked through outlook. Outlook kept locking up and I restarted the computer. As soon as I restarted, I had the problem you're describing. I had to reformat the drive to fix it. Hopefully this isn't the case for you.

if its only when you load the game, try copying your profiles to a safe location and then delete your profiles. Start the game. if it works fine, quit and try putting your macro files back in and then play. I had an issue recently where this worked. you have to redo some settings but its better than reformatting.

As your computer boots, as soon as that windows load bar comes up push F8, that is the special boot menu, then goto safe mode with networking.

Once safe mode loads (hopefully it does) update virus definitions and run a virus scan.

reboot if it finds a virus and fixes it.

If it doesnt find one, Use system Restore, its in..

Start>All Programs>Accesories>System Tools>System Restore

restore to an earlier date... I would do like a week ago for good measure...

If this still doesnt do it...

Stick in ur windows XP install CD reboot and load the cd... and go through the first steps of installation.. what I mean is it will ask you if you want to repair with recovery console or continue install... select continue with install once it gets to the next part it will ask you if you would like to repair this windows installation... then do that...

This will install windows back to the version on that CD all of your registry stuff will be intact so all of your programs will still work fine and it should just be all god when it is done..

If this gets ya back in, you will need to do windows update... have fun it will be a while while that crap is going on...

If none of this works...

Reinstall windows...
Sorry brotha

Hope this helps..

Thanks for all the advice folks but I'm happy to say I'm back up and running.

Thanks to help from Jabe (I knew the patch bribe would work) and the nicest thing about Windows XP I'm all good. By "nicest thing" I'm referring to XP's step-back restore software. By simple restoring my system settings back a couple of days its working again and I didn't lose a thing or had to reinstall or reformat. Woot!

But I really appreciate any and all advice passed along here. Its good to know this is a place where anyone can get help with anything comp related.
