Some more answers to valid questions. Sorry if its already been posted here - I haven't sifted through all 8 pages of this thread.

Couple things that caught my eye.

1) Weapons only have two stats: damage and range.
2) Luck is part of the combat system.

Yuck.

Maybe its me but this really seems "dumbed" down.

Ok this sucks big hairy wookiee balls here folks. When they did the CU I thought hey I'll wait and see. It wasn't such a major change that the game was unreconizable to me but now they're gona do another grad sweeping change? I just hope that this is SOE's last chance before Lucas Arts pull the licence away from them and gives it to a company tyhat knows what it's doing.

I think Lucas Arts is the bad guy this time. Seems to me they shoved this down SOE's throat. Why would SOE fix obsolete professions? Why pub 24 at all? Definitely not entirely planned. Although I do think part of it was "hey we btter act normal so we can sell the expansion."

its all about the money, and when they see they're other FPS games sell really well, and they see WoW steal many players from SWG and keep them, and have more players than swg ever had, then they gotta do something to make the money

that means a shakeup, a change.

cuz it's either that or shut down the whole thing

I'm with you on that one. This reeks of outside influence. It makes no sense to release two expansions to a game that is being changed 'secretly' for over a year. Especially when there is outcry from the subscriber base about having expansions when they just want the core game fixed. No matter how much spite you may have for SOE, companies dont operate their businesses this way.

I am really disturbed about the fact that they did go ahead and push the Obi Wan expansion out so close to this announcement. And it seems a huge coincedence that it comes at the same time as the DVD release, Battlefront II, Empire at War, and the upcoming XMas season.

I'm trying to be as optomistic as possible these days, but at the same time I'm wondering how close we really could be to SWG's last breath?

/shrug

I'll keep hoping it all comes out great *fingers crossed*

Quick Question: Anyone know if there will still be mix and matching or do you pick one proffession and thats it?

I serriously dought I will ever come back to Galaxies It was fun but the fact that they throw this at us so soon after the CU has sicken me. I might hop on for a month to see how it is but right now I have as much hope for this being good as I did when I heard the plot line for AotC.

 Oh hey think this might be a gear up for a SWG on the X-Box 360? I remeber hearing rumors that Galaxies would be ported to the X-Box when talk of the game first started. The fact that SOE is changing the formate to that of a FPS makes me wonder if they're lookin to get it on the 360 or any of the next gen platforms.

I think many of the professions look like they incorporate many of the combinations and possibilities that most people choose anyhow...for example, medics get ranged combat abilities, I think. Most medics choose pistols in game because it matches the abilities. Also, many medics choose a combination of Doctor/CM abilities to get the most out of their healing. So...it seems like they're sort of combining things.

I think Nyvveck has been trying to tell us this as well... I'm still skeptical about it at the moment. But you could take Commando, or one of the other melee related templates, and still make a TKM. Your Medic will be just as likely to use a pistol as the smuggler will (Of appropriate CL to you. We're already seeing this in game since the CU first went up.)

I think our erk here is that there is no 'official' TK, CH, BE... etc, etc. anymore.

Is this dumbed down? I think so, yes. But... we'll just have to see if their pushing this for Xbox Live with these changes... or really trying to improve the game.
