Star Wars: Battlefront - First Impressions
I only played the single player tonight to get used to the controls but I think it is sweet. I will have to get a joystick for flying though. that was a little rough.

I played the game a little in single player mode. I did not like it at first until I started to get the hang of the controls. Once the confusion subsided I found myself enjoying it. It took me forever to figure out how to turn on the jets on the backpack. There is a lot of detail and it really feels like you are in a SW battle from the movies.
I don't know if it will be any more fun in multiplayer. My experience with these sorts of games in multiplayer has always been less than ideal. I guess it all depends on the people you are playing with.
For some reason the cutscenes did not display. I heard the sounds but did not see the video. Any suggestions?
Once cool thing I discovered was the Galactic Conquest mode. It looks like you can pick a planet to invade and if you win a battle or 2 you then control the planet. You can then pick other planets to invade. Also, certain planets give you bonuses, such as a jedi hero, or more accurate troops. The end result was that the battles felt more meaningful. A strategic element is present. I wonder if this is available in muliplayer mode.

I really want to get it, but I'm once I do, its going to take over my SWG time. I really don't want to lose my Galaxies time right now so I'll see if this is just a flash-in-the-pan kind of game, or if it actually has some longeviety (i.e. Battlefield)

You mean you needed a reason OTHER than the fact that the factory there stinks up the city? Or that it's the home of Indiana State University?Skarr wrote:ok just another reason Terre Haute sucks...

oh there are many reasons, this was just a new one, but ISU is not a reason it sucks...it isone of the few reasons the town is still alive, and if it wasn't there, would be one big suckhole of suckitudeTramelRaggs wrote:You mean you needed a reason OTHER than the fact that the factory there stinks up the city? I have still been playing single player mode to figure the game out. I gotta say that Galactic Conquest mode is really fun. I just discovered that after you win 4 battles, you get to invoke a special ability that is specific to your side.
If you are the Rebels, you can rebel a planet, thus gaining control. If you are the Empire, you can blow up a planet and take it out of play. Good stuff.

I find something new everytime I play. I found Galactic Conquest a good way to have a little fun and try out stuff I haven't gotten the chance to try in single player.Ekade wrote:I have still been playing single player mode to figure the game out. For example, Speeder bikes rule in that game. I wish SWG had the same blurring of the background when you ride speeders. Makes for a cool effect. Plus you can shoot from them and crash them. painful but hilarious.
Then there was the joy of driving an AT-ST around Endor and shooting Ewoks. Oh the happiness! Though the little bastards got their revenge. When I walked through one of their villages 2 logs on ropes came down and squashed my AT-ST like a bug.

OMG I know!!! There is so much detail in the game. It looks and sounds a lot like a movie.Seret Sajet wrote:

I was piloting an AT-AT this weekend.. OMG was that fun. Blasting away poor little rebel troopers. Nothing is more fun than watching a half dozen of their little bodies get thrown up into the air as you land a shot right in the middle of them.
On one map I spent half the time fling around as the Jet Trooper. It was cool landing on top of the buildings and going places the normal foot soldier could not go.

Ekade, thanks for the tip on that. I just spent a galactic conquest playing the jet trooper. Awesome class!
I know it isn't within the continuity but it would be nice to have matches in singleplayer where the clone troopers vs the imperial troopers. I would like to see how they stack up against each other. I like different aspecks of each class. They definately all have there distinct advantages/disadvantages.
I don't know about you but I hate playing the rebels. I just can't get into them.

Yeah, I am really digging the Jet Trooper. Last night I was in a tooth and nail battle with the CIS in a Galactic Conquest game.
It sometimes takes me a couple a tries at a map before I figure out what I need to do to influence the battle significantly enough to have my forces win.
More often that not this comes in the form of becoming the Jet Trooper and getting to where I need to be FAST.
My daughter keeps asking me, "Are you Boba the Fett?" LOL.
I am still trying to figure out what planetary bonuses I want.. and what ones I want to take from the opposition.

For planetary bonuses I find the best ones to take depend on the fight. if I am going againts decent vehicles I take bespin, otherwise its usually bacta or jedi hero. I only take the training when I am rebel because in my storyline the empire always blows yavin up =)

I have not seen a huge benefit to having the Jedi hero. My favorites so far seem to be Bacta (troops heal over time) and Advanced training (more accurate troops).
Another bonus that confuses me is Extra Garrison (available when you control Kasshyk). I know what it does in theory, but I have failed to notice how it comes into play.
