I thought you liked the Final Fantasy movie? Maybe not. I remember going to see that with you.

I loved the Final Fantasy movie...
The only problem with it was the Title... It wasn't so much Final Fantasy, but I thought the story on it's own rocked...
And I'm a big fan of most of the voice actors in it...

FFX should be a movie or FF8. Another could be kingdom hearts.

The Spirits Within caused me the most pain on that list. I was expecting epic FF, and got pretty pictures and a sci-fi with little of what makes FF what it is. Where was the fantasy?

FF: The Spirits Within looked nice but the story was terrible.
Some old spirits come back from a war and kill everyone and then you're supposed to give a crap about them? It was all glamor and no substance.
Plus there was a pretty-boy character with the voice of Steve Buscemi. Who's gonna believe that?

Didn't even know Advent Children was out? I thought it wasn't scheduled for release 'till next year...
But I disagree with the no substance part there Seret.
They're the spirits from a world that was destroyed because they didn't realize that what they were doing was harming their planet to it's core. They consumed so much that the very planet they walked on was destroyed. Sounds kinda like a planet I know... OH YEAH OURS!!!
And you're supposed to give a crap because they weren't necessarily killing just for the hell of it, they were trying to help the people see the err of their ways.
Personally I think it had some great substance.
It just shouldn't have had the FF logo, I think that's the biggest reason why people were disappointed... Too many narrow-minded gamers who couldn't see past the surface. I hated RE1 when I first saw it, but after someone explained to me just how much like the game it really was, I loved it.

Typhus, I'm not trying to team up against you here, but here's my 2 cents...
Maybe I am just a simple person, but if I am going to see a movie about a bitching game, I don't want some convoluted plot that has SOME salient relevence to the game it is supposed to portray. I want to see the hero in all his (or her) ass kicking glory...not philosophy and rhetoric that MIGHT fit into the theme of the game. I think if you reverse engineer the movie (ie pretend that super mario brothers the movie or the Spirits Within were made into a game), that it should SEEM like it would be a good game. In the case of Final Fantasy, the movie should feel like it fits into the Final Fantasy genre. Which in my humblest of opinions, I feel it does not.

I have some screenies from Advent Children. I dunno if it's out yet or not...I will ask my contact for all things...Advent Childreny.
Anyhoo. I think most movies-based-on-video-games are doomed to be lame if you love the game. I loved Resident Evil, but then...I played the game for like a total of five minutes. I've heard from a lot of people that they hated it.
I dunno, maybe most of them turn out so bad is because you're used to controlling the action and the characters and there's a base repulsion at sitting back and watching the action happen out of your control after you slaved over a hot television set for hours.

Here, let me help you see the error of your ways by killing pretty much your entire population. There, see how bad things are now? Oh sorry, I'll speak up, I forgot how hard it is to hear when you're wiped from existance.
I say if you liked it cool but it gets a big BAH from me.

Now that I'll agree with. It was a little cheesy but it was directed well and the fight scenes were great. I did wish to see Scorpion and Sub-Zero as a little more than mindless ninja slaves but at least they kicked ass. It was all-around enjoyable in my book.

Pitfall starring Bruce Campbell as Pitfall Harry.
Or Qbert the movie starring Bruce Campbell as Qbert.
