I thought it went very well, a true success. I enjoyed actually seeing people and entertainment in Despot for once. When I walked in to see Dancers on stage people playing dice and seedy conversations in the corner I was thrilled. It was truely what it was supposed to be.

My suggestion is to stage a few mini-RP "jobs" to get newcomers to come to the Despot. Have a few people hang out in busy places like Starports and popular cantinas and offer to pay folks to deliver something to someone at the Despot. You could go a step further and shout that you need a bounty hunter to retrive something, or someone's head, from the Despot. Just tell them some scumbag owes you money and he's hanging out there. BH's will love that. Get Doctors involved by saying you have a sick friend and he's there needing help. Get Artisans involved by having them make something and deliver it.

If we keep that atmosphere going and tell these newcomers its like this every Sunday night we'll attract more and more folks.

I had a BLAST there last night. I wish I could have gotten there sooner; I kinda missed the party.

But RPing with Coiy about what's about to go down in Nocturnus was a ton of fun. Especially with Dooo there to back me up.

Ekade wrote:Let me ask the question again...

For those who went..

1) Did you like it? Is this something we should continue?

2) What should we do to make it better?
Yes, back on topic for me now. Got carried away with the big fun last night that I wanted to share :D

1.) Yes, I liked it (if you hadn't noticed) and as someone mentioned already, for a first time, short notice event, I'd call it a success! A highlight of my gaming so far. I felt a Star Wars presence there last night. It's what I envisoned when I first walked into the mausoleum that was the Lucky Despot last year. Let's make the place famous! Continue it!

2.) To make it better, I'd agree to have it be a nexus of player generated missions as Seret stated. From what I saw from us last night, there's something for everyone. Career Opportunity, Gambling, Intrigue, and pure Social Liaison.

a. Career Opportunity - as was stated in the "Player Motivation" Thread the other day. Profession content is a potent hook to use to get and keep players interested. My character is my test subject and career opportunity knocked a few times last night.

b. Intrigue - there was loads of it there last night and when it hits me, personally, it's a great feeling. Once again, Keer had a good dose of it a few times without really trying. Between Keer's Nocturnus intrigue and nearly blowing Alonzo's "cover" (never knew he had a cover, laff) I was more than satisfied.

c. Gambling - Very thrilling to me personally last night was having Keer shake the dice over his head and announce the odds and stakes on the current game. I'd planned to have a few different game outlines worked out before the night started but time wasn't fair to me.

We should pursue a solid gambling system because the market is out there and has been since Launch Day, (Beta even?). Presently players can craft dice of 12, 10, and 6 sides and a 50/50 Chance Cube of Red & Blue colors. With these options and a little math we should be able to float a system or two. We post the finished product on the SOE boards and keep it bumped. I think we'll get good reaction.

d. Social Liaison - Some people will come just to "wade in the pool", experiencing what's going on which is cool to have. In Ekade's "Player Motivation" thread, I challenged myself to have Keer bring 3 strangers to the Lucky Despot without a bribe. I got one. A wookiee, named Sha'Vhan who Keer had periodically bare his fangs and do "wookiee Roars" at people. This guy that I first had to pull teeth to get to come from the Coronet Cantina ("I'm no roleplayer, man. Sorry."), was later sending me tells in the Lucky Despot "Man, this is fun!" He ended up Gambling, getting drinks for people, and playing "the drunk wookiee". I was so jazzed about that. Thanks to Shar'Vhan for trying the extraordinary! :D

I think that if we attack these four areas (a,b,c,d) and more areas I'm sure, we'll have more successes down the road.

Cheers!

I must have missed the "Player Motivation" thread, sadly, but I love the Carreer Motivation thing.

I didn't even want to play SWG (I was about to log off) a few nights ago when the Lost coordinator (forget his name for now, starts with a "K") asked me if I could bring some medicine to them to help aid their fight on Rori.

It was instant RP nirvana, as the Mayor is a born Smuggler. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to bring some incredibly overpriced merchandise to a risky location. It practically *defines* the profession.

We're going to have a bunch more luck trying to pull people in like this. As was mentioned earlier: get doctors to come heal people. Bounty Hunters to go harrass or hunt suspected criminals, etc.

OMG you guys are awesome... so many good ideas it is hard to keep track of them all.

A recap of what I am hearing:

1) Gambling.

Given what is available to us with the dice system, lets see if we can come up with some intriguing games. Keer mentioned he had some ideas. Please share those when you have time.

I dont know if this exists, but is there an online version of the Sabbac (sp?) game? If so, would it be enjoyable to play this the same time you are in SWG, or would it be too hard?

2) Socializing.

This will happen on it's own.

3) Hooks.

One thing I noticed, some people have a hard time breaking into RP if they are new. I have seen Zabas at the Roba 2 times, and now our Scum and Villany event. He is clearly interested in RP.. how do we get him involved?

I think the ideas cited already address this, but I want to make it as easy as possible for roleplayers to become engaged. What I try to do is approach the "new" people and break the ice. Now that I think of it, I should have introduced him to other "buisnessmen", because that is basically what he told me he is.

Stay on target Ekade...

Plots will make this truly outstanding. Almost all your responses point this out. The "mini-jobs" is a great hook for newbies. Maybe we have a few people spend the first 30-60 min "hooking" people at random locales.

Larger intrigue is where the real fun is. It sounds like a few of you have things in the works. Lets cook up some ideas.

Sabbac is way to involving to play on a client outside of SWG and keep up with both. The devs are gonna need to drop it in for it to be a possability. And there is a whole array of varients to the game for each system and planet even, so I'm not expecting it to show up in game anytime soon.

Letting my guard down? It's more like charming twi'leks have a knack for disarming me. :D
Smug Druggler wrote:As for "getting friendly with anything that moved", that was just Keer's "Boogie Down Shot", it's an Area Attack that drops the inhibitions of the people around him.
*Ekade attempts to evade "Boogie Down Shot" and fails.*

*tries to look innocent* Hey, even a priestess needs to cut loose every now and then. LOL, love that song. That's cute. :D
Smug Druggler wrote:Ekade had a good buzz going on even before she came to the Despot. The sign outside said "S & V Night", but her vision was so blurred she read "S & M Night" and did cartwheels up the ramp and into the place!
OMG!!! You scoundrel!!! Oh, and don't "eek" me mister. You are the one who started the whole ball rolling with the lick my finger move. (and I loved it) If it was S&M night, you would still be on a leash.

I can't have my public image tainted by a night of "unrestricted debauchery". :D

I hope she does it again. I missed it and am a little disappointed. I was looking forward to it.

I say let's do it again this Sunday Ekade...maybe my kid won't be sick this time and I can give it 110% of the scum and villany I usually bring to the table.

By which he means 0% villany, 220% scum.

He's really quite filthy as he never bathes.

I guess I will have to ressurect E-bo for this event. Arifo won't really fit in anymore. She hung her smuggling hat up a long time ago. But E-bo definately qualifies as scum.
