My argument is that other than a brief scene in mos eisley and in jabba's, you don't see the seedier side of the star wars universe. If we are supposed to limit our characters to what the movies offered us that would just be sad and pathetic. How can you define an entire culture from three movies?

That's what every Star Wars game has done to date, and done a successful job of it.

There's seedy underbellies on Tattooine. An Imperial Navy. A rebellion.

If you can't place a character in those three environments, where else do you want to place them? Galaxies technically offers you nothing more than Imperial, Rebellion, or neutral. The fact that people have explored beyond that is amazing.

The fact that there's Imperial wookies is depressing to me.

Call me a nut, or a jerk, I don't care. There's tons of cannon to follow, why should anyone try and use it now?

you also have to realize that these canon movies are released and marketed towards kids, cuz if kids don't buy the crap, GL doesn't make $$$, so you won't EVER see drugs being used in the movies...they might allude to it, but never will it be shown

Case and point:

In the older versions of ANH Luke is at the bar and tugs the bartender's shirt and says "I'll have one of those". In the new version on DVD he still tugs on the bartender's shirt but his question has been vocally removed. Hmmm.

Spice grub

Spice Mines of Kessel
this was the generic term used to describe the spice-mining operations which were established on the planet Kessel. Over the decades, many beings and agencies have claimed ownership of the mines, and during the entire reign of Emperor Palpatine the mines were worked by slave labor. Working in the mines was dangerous, since it had to be done in complete darkness in order to ensure good quality spice harvests. This, coupled with the harsh living conditions and dangerous creatures found in the mines, made being sent to the Spice Mines of Kessel one of the worst punishments a being could receive. Spice Terminus
this location defined one end of the Llanic Spice Run. It was here that most of the spice brought into or out of the Outer Rim was processed. (GG9)

Spiceball
this was a modified medical container, about the size of a thermal detonator, that was used to carry spice around. In many cases, the original medical container was shielded to ensure the shelf-life of the drugs or medicine contained within it. This shielding allowed spice users to carry a supply of spice around with them, since they could claim that it was a medical drug inside the ball. (MBS)

Spice-jacker
this was the term used to describe those pirates who illegally obtain spice by hijacking other smugglers and stealing their cargoes. The use of spice-jackers by crimelords increased during the early years of the New Republic. (GG11)

Spicetack
this was a chewable stimulant that was popular during the height of the Clone Wars. (MBS)

Tempest Spice
this was a form of spice developed on Nar Shaddaa, during the early years of the New Order. (WOTC)

this Klatooinan was a member of a street gang which controlled a small sector of Coruscant's entertainment district during the years following the Battle of Naboo. He was wanted by the Republic Security Force in connection to a growing ring of narcotics dealers which was trafficking death sticks and other drugs throughout the Core Worlds. He was captured on Coruscant by Jango Fett, who was searching for one of Bardack's primary contacts, Jervis Gloom. (BH)

Cobral
this was the name of the most powerful crime family on the planet Frego, during the decades leading up to the Battle of Naboo. The Cobral, as they were known, took control of the planet from a morally corrupt government, and for a short time they lowered taxes and provided higher wages for the native Fregans. The Cobral could do this because much of their income was based on the black market sales of drugs and weapons.

Darnada
this Dug served as one of Balck Sun's vigos during the years leading up to the Battle of Naboo, serving under Alexi Garyn from his personal space station in the Outer Rim. Shortly before the Battle of Naboo, Darnada was invovled in a meeting with Hath Monchar, who had planned to sell information on the upcoming blockade of Naboo to the highest bidder. Darnada, whose business was more inclined toward the sale of spice and other drugs, could not believe the wild tale of the Neimoidian, and sent him back to the Trade Federation.

Dodonna, Jan
Dodonna and the other prisoners were transported to the planet Ciutric by Ysanne Isard's clone, where they were held and drugged to ensure their compliance. Isard's clone pretended to move them every so often, using elaborate chambers and neurological drugs to make them believe they were travelling through hyperspace. In fact, they never left the planet.

Greglik
this former Alliance pilot captained an ore hauler used to transport material in the year following the Battle of Hoth. He was considered by some to be handsome and good-looking, but Greglik was also an addict of various drugs and substances, a habit which eventually led to his death - and that of seventeen other Alliance fighters - in a collision with an asteroid. Imperial Substance Control Authority
this branch of the Imperial Customs authority was responsible for enforcing the various laws regarding the shipment of various controlled substances, among them medical and recreational drugs. (TA)

Lesai
a highly-addictive, very illegal drug produced in the Zebitrope System, lesai is created from the purple mold which grows on the back of a certain species of lizards on Zebitrpoe IV. The drug has a number of properties. It can eliminate the need for sleep in humans, as well as extending their lifespan by one-third. It also doesn't affect the human brain, so the hallucinations and delusions that result from other drugs is avoided. However, the drug makes its addicts very mechanical and amoral. They act without emotion, and don't have any care as to the consequences of their actions. (LCF)

Meen Burtak
this male Gran was a member of the RavinsBlud syndicate during the years leading up to the Battle of Naboo. He was known as a death stick addict who could be manipulative and intelligent when he wasn't doped up on drugs. He was also an informant to Jaw-knee Rise, which prompted Brine Eyes-Li to issue a bounty for his capture. The bounty was claimed by Jango Fett, when the bounty hunter traveled to Malastare to meet with Sebolto. (BH)

Psycho-probe
this was the term used to describe a method of Imperial interrogation, in which a subject was drugged and held captive under the ministrations of an IT-series droid. Using mind-altering drugs, the subject was virtually powerless to keep their secrets hidden. (MCA1)

Slider
first made popular by Dexter Jettster on the planet Coruscant, this form of ground-meat sandwich was made from perforated food-board. A slider was often served with a special sauce for garnish, although many beings consumed the garnish first as an antidote to the gastrinal distress which was often caused by the consumption of food-board. It is in the movies...best example is the guy that tries to peddle "Death Sticks" to Obi-Wan in Ep2. "Death Sticks" are a form of spice.

As far as I'm concerned, "Death Sticks" are cigarettes, not spice. I can't craft them as a Master Smuggler, so they're not spice to me.

Also, here's what I got from doing a "find" through the scripts for the 3 main movies:

1). 3PO mentions the spice mines of Kessel when they're on the blockade runner.
2). Luke says his father didn't fight in the clone wars. That he was a navigator ona spice freighter.
3). In the Special Edition remake with Jabba in it, Jabba mentions that Han dropped a shipment of spice.

However, it should be noted that Jabba's mention isn't in the ORIGINAL movie, and there's no mention of people actually TAKING spice. At all.

There's no mention of spice in Empire or Jedi.

So, the movies allude to spice, but never actually show it or use it.

Don't mean to gang up on you Xan and actually I can't craft Ryll as a master smuggler either.

Death Sticks, cigarettes? Maybe pot is a better analogy. I can go to a 7/11 to buy a pack cigarettes, I don't need some pusher in a bar discretly trying to sell me a pack ( nope I don't smoke ). It could be borderline as far as spice goes. Legal in some places but mildly euphoric and strongly addictive.

As far as the seedier underside? It's played a big part in characters such as Aurra Sing. It's defiantly hinted at in Attack of the Clones and Corcucant. And wasn't Jabba hitting the hookah in Return of the Jedi?

But maybe your right. There is no [one] banging down my door for Glitterstim.
