Where's the scum and villainy of S&V?

Seret Sajet wrote:Well I don't think you'll get too many results with a condescending attitude. You may not intend to be insulting but you're still coming down on people for how they choose to RP. But I'll try not to get my "undergarments" in a bunch and address the issue.

Scum & Villainy isn't what you take from it, its what you put into it. We can't make everyone who goes act like a criminal thus making the tone and feel darker but we can each individually do something about. In the past I have used S&V night to conduct all my criminal business. I've made arms deals there, hired thugs there, hired Smugglers there (I highly recommend Keer, he's the no-fuss-no-muss smuggler) and plotted a few capers there as well.

The idea is to give people a place that has not occupied by Imperials or protected by the Rebels. Its a place where you know you can conduct shady business or maybe hire a criminal or two. Now if I were to go there and get polite "tea time" replies" then I'd probably avoid giving them my business but I won't tell them they are doing it wrong. That's that was Player X wants to RP and who am I to tell them how it's done.

So I suggest listening to Keer and keep at it. You're doing your part so no worries there. The right people will show up at the right time sooner or later.

ok but all i'm trying to say is:

if i had a party in r/l and i said "superbowl party" and people come over, and i don't have the game on and i'm watching american idol...i don't think that's right. I was just making a commentary that there seem to be too many criminal masterminds, and not enough henchmen if you will.

I feel like i'm in a bond movie rather than a dangerous bar with thugs.

sorry that i insulted you, but what's new...i mean...i'm alonzo

Your analogy is a little incorrect. At a superbowl party, the host has the ability to change to channel to the superbowl.

I think what you are saying is that you go to turn on the superbowl, and the players decided to have a Tea Party instead of playing a football game.

This analogy is starting to make my brain hurt...

So is it the players or his friends at his house that want the Tea Party, or both?

Anyway, basically what Alonzo, I and several other members of TTF have been clamouring for is some good old RP PvP. The system is mostly balanced (aside from Jedi, which is why I will stay out of fights if requested) so there are no more debates over "buffs, no buffs, food, spice, etc." that used to get in the way.

We show up at these events hoping to draw one person into a fight, who calls his buddies, then we bring our guys, and it's a huge brawl. So far, we've had problems drawing one guy to even get into a tussle.

No one has to drastically change their characters, but just be more willing to throw the gloves down

I though the Roba was traditionally where Alonzo has his brawls.

Any time there was a good RP scene going.. Bounty Hunter X would show up and half the place would empty out to witness the ensuing fracas.

Well.. I am a combat level 56 Dancer. If you want to mop the floor with me.. go ahead. But I don't imagine it would be very fun.

Maybe if you could bring a compelling RP reason to fight, you might get more takers. A random brawl is fun, but may be perceived as pointless. Whatever you do, do it in a way that adds to the immersion. Fights that are poorly cultivated just seem to detract from the mood, rather than enhance it. Make sure they are meaningful, start up a heated rivaly or something.

Lol Ekade! No no no, come bother me it's all good. I was just pointing out the fact that I can be scummy...and villiany...and stuff.
Just buy me a beer first....then talk to me :D
Sheeesh...why does everyone stay away from the grumpy wooky? Not like we kill people just for fun....is it?

You didn't insult me, Alonzo. I was just pointing out that your post may not be taken well due to the tone. I know, I know... its the Alonzo way.

The issue of PvP RP has been a long standing battle here. A dozen or so folks are gearing up with their replies right now on what it can and cannot work. This is because the experience tends to be different for everyone.

For example, if two people who know each other very well get into a PvP brawl chances are it will turn out the way it should. I've been in a few of these, all fun without the fuss.

But then when you bring in the event factor things go horribly wrong. Reason being is people aren't really clear on what goes and what doesn't. Issues like buffs or no buffs, this combat class versus that combat class, coke or pepsi, tastes great or less filling. It all comes out of the woodwork to blow a good time. I've hear countless complaints of how PvP turned out at social events and its an unfortunate thing.

But you are right, Toront. The system IS more balanced now in many ways and it leaves PvP much more interesting now. With that in mind its time to pick up the pieces and try gain.

Here is what I suggest. Go back to where it works, when two people plan it out and know exactly whats off-limits and what isn't. Then take this fight to S&V night and show everyone how its done. After you do this a few times people will catch on. They'll ask questions and then consider trying it themselves. If you show people how to do it, and don't give up after one or two tries, and show it being done well it WILL catch on.

Patience is key, Perserverance is golden.

Here's just an idea I had. Why not get in touch with some one who's running an rp freindly fight club and bring it into the Despot. Have it happen up on the patio on top or in the lower levels out of sight of the regulars to give that illegal feel to the fighting.

The crux of the problem is as I've stated before. Every one likes to play the heroic character and we have very few who enjoy playing bad guys. Do we have guys who play criminals? Yes. Do we have people who like to play dangerous, almost evil, criminals? No. What can be done to change this? Not much and we shouldn't really sweet it to much. Why? Because, although we'd like to see it resemble what the name of the night implies, people are enjoying themselves. One we could do is encourage those we do find to play villianous characters naturally to show at the Despot. If we can get the ME RP Zone thing running one thing I'd like to see form from that is two rival street gangs. One could hang at the cantina and the other at the abandoned theater (sorry I really dont see ME as a place that supports the finner arts so the place would naturally be abandoned) and they both show up to the Despot to try to knock the other gang around while the local crime lord Lady V watches.

I believe you will find that the Kreetles will back up any villainous shootouts the way we did the last (overlong) shooting at the Despot...we hit the deck and crawled to cover.

We react to things we would legitimately overhear, or could see from the stage. And slugs or energy rays flying around the room would definitely be things we will react to.
