RP Cannon? How do we merge differing opinions?

This is a very difficult question, one that I'm sure the creators of this game many years ago had to ask themselves. The realization to this question is that it can't be done. To create an MMORPG in a star wars realm that coincides with the timeline as well as allowing individuals to survive (clone) and have choices (become jedi) is not possible. So the galaxy that has been created for us has its little 'tweaks'.

The question should be how do you 'tweak' your interpretations of this galaxy? I think without a doubt that the storyline should be followed. I'm a stickler for detail and I have enjoyed reading (almost) all of the novels, comics, short stories, etc. that have detailed this galaxy. It is a joy to see the continuity held in star wars as more products are available for us to experience. Unfortunately almost all other science fiction 'worlds' have been extremely inconsistent.

The biggest issue is the jedi situation. They simply should not be in plain view and in my opinion, the 'wannabe' jedi's are just that...wannabe's. They can fling a lightsaber in plain view of others to prove that point. :) Jedi are simply not being trained during this time period....period! No one can dispute this because the Man-Lucas himself says so. To say there are jedi that exist during this time period is true. But unfortunately we should never see them. Some players rp jedi superbly, but you don't know them. :)

Xyryn,

Your character's history doesn't break canon. That's what many of us are going for: an existence in SWG that fits our own ideal SW universe.

If Jabe RPs a Jedi, I will do my best to not interrupt/hinder/insult his RP, but I will adjust it in my head and my character's to fit what I feel is possible within SW canon. (Just and example, bro, not singling you out.)

Each of us has to control the reality we play in, because we can't avoid power gamers, griefers and other immature players. Accept how other players choose to RP, but don't let it affect your paradigm. If every one of us is able to RP around the L33T gamers, we should all have little difficulty narrowing our view and creating small blind spots for the players who's universe allows them to be beyond our visions.

I've found that there are really two sets of RP'ers in SWG. There are the Purists, those that stick with cannon and ignore things IG, such as Rebels holding a planet, and the you have the Non-Purists, those that incorporate the things that the game throws at them. For sucessful RP between the two, you need respect and a willingness to compromise.

I believe Zaren probably closed up this thread as best of an agreement we could come to. Guess we just have to play it by ear on an idividual basis.
