Man sorry the disscusion between complicated and easier game styles is moot to me, I've played Hack Master. This is the moster of rules. My RP group desided to try it out and one swing took a hour to figure out what happened. This systems had you roll for attack then for what body part then, depending what body part, how deep the wound and if you hit any organs then damage. I played it for two game sessions then quit.

The one thing I don't like about all the games using dice as generators, no matter how many sides they have, is the substituting the roll for common sense.
Btw, I, too, prefer gurps.

My first flame
Despite you GURPS-lovers...ick. Tables for everything when you look through it. Strength to lift 20 men, no that's not what I mean. More the feel like: "well I'm sorry Luke, the 10 stormtroopers shoot at you, *rolls*, 3 have hit you, you take 14 damage and are knocked dead...well they are trained soldiers in battle armor!" or "Let's see, you've flown a skyhopper before, Luke, but of course never an X-wing...so we'll defer to your Skyhopper piloting - 6. You also haven't used a laser cannon before so we'll take your Ship Blaster - 8. ..... (later) Well don't be too upset, you did get to shoot /at/ several TIE fighters and you really only took one wing off your fighter going into the trench....of course those turbolasers are designed to blow you up, why act so surprised? OK, roll against your ST - 4 to eject...I think that would be what the ejection skill would default to....(flipflipflipflip)."
Joking aside -- Batty and Xyryn are right -- the system is less important than the way the game system is used for the right feel. You can blur some of the rules in GURPS and make them more heroic like the movies, I agree.
I just preferred what I saw in WEG Star Wars because from the start it was designed to be heroic. Never flown an X-wing before? Well what's your Mechanical? Aw, heck 4D? Well you're a natural pilot! Your default skill is as good as the average trained TIE pilot. Force points, character points, etc. GURPS can adapt I'm sure though too.

Frankly, whenever I get a little irritated at the way SWG is going, I just look at all the different rule books for the P&P games and feel happy about being in SWG.

A nice little add on would be if they'd add the sound of a dice roll when using the chance cube in game. *feels giddy inside about the thought*
/agree Xyryn too. Though, I still miss table top gamming.

For those of you that want to convert WEG to WotC SW, or visa versa, the first edition of WotC SW has a conversion table for back and forth use. You can find it in the back of the book right before table of contents. If there's enough of you interested I'll look it up and post it here.

Oooooo.... So, the new game does support the old system? A 2 in 1 deal? Ok, maybe WotC isn't as bad as I thought... I'll consider signing it now. That's the kind of info die hard fans of older systems need to hear.

The only table top gaming I miss is Battletech.
What I could with a Phoenix Hawk.....!
